which one are you going to get Jeff !!??
LOL

The bow I have @ home shoots over 400fps with a 400gr arrow and I don't need a crank to cock it.

So I'm good for now!! ;)
i call BS.
you say that every year then next thing you know Jeff has 3 listed for sale.
You have no self control with bows Jeff.

Well, if the model number 440 refers also to the speed capability of the bow, I'd say that this is one heck of an advance in bow technology.

I don't see Excalibur bumbling with limb issues, or any other reliability issues. If they are gambling on reliability and they fail, they could lose their market.

Take another look at this video..http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69204&p=673506&hilit=speed+kills#p673506

Speed DOES make a difference. It makes trajectory less of a factor, it makes target movement less of a factor. I've had hunting success with earlier, slower, models. I respect their capability. But then, I used to think that the 1957 Ford Thunderbird was the epitome of automotive design. In its day it was good, but it's far behind today's production.

I was looking again, at the pics, looks like the assassin 420 is using matrix limbs? Or am I seeing that wrong.

The take down feature does look cool, with the stirrup being the lever on the locking mechanism

Yes, it does. On the other hand, it is good to remind ourselves just what it was that drew us to choose hunting with bows, to begin with. If your priority is clean kills at almost any distance or conditions, there is already a tool for that. I believe it is possible to make arrows fly faster and faster and if that is what is selling, manufacturers will keep working towards that goal and succeeding. Will there ever be "fast enough"?

Hmmm, with that takedown Assassin Excalibur May entice me to retire my Exocet this year!

My biggest complaint about my crossbow is that it’s an ungainly beast to lug around.

That advertised 420fps should yield an honest 400 with hunting weight arrows. That’d be a big upgrade for me!

I must say after looking at the new models I am considering a new one; but I know that in a few years there will be a new design- faster (maybe 500 ft/sec) and lighter. But I am still tempted.

That take down system looks very cool. I'm sure someone will be putting it through its paces right away to see if accuracy it truly unaffected. For those of us that are used to squirrel hunting with a crossbow, its all about accuracy.

I'm curious what the dimensions will be. If the BD380 is 35" and the bd400 is 35.75".
Does that mean the 440 is 1.5" longer again? Or have they tweeked the riser. If that's the case... I want the riser

I have the Assassin now and think it will be nice to have multiple speed offerings. I don't think it's enough of a jump in speed for me to upgrade so soon

The 440 has my attention...if it can be hand cocked. I worry about serving life with any of these new heavy bows.

My Matrix 410 has achieved 412fps with a Boo string and a 365gn arrow about 3 years ago. Safe to call it a 420 speed wise. Serving life with latches, heavily poslished in my TT, I get over 500 shots before I need a re-serve.

The draw weight specs should be interesting. I already know it's too heavy for me without a crank!! Lol
