Cleaning Diablo shafts

Post by Peacemaker »

Hey gang. Long time no post. I guess no issues.....the Matrix 380 has just been doin' it's thing. I hope everyone has been having a good season.....

Question for the experts though. I finally have enough Diablos with damaged vanes that it's time for a little refletching. I have the most of the materials I need....I am just trying to figure out what the best chemical is to clean the glue off the shafts from the old vanes without damaging the shafts. Mineral spirits? MEK? Other magic elixir?

Surely I could google it, but I figure that nobody knows Diablos better than the experts here....

Thanks in advance.

Laughing out loud because last month my daughter destroyed about half the stuff in her dorm room with acetone. Somebody told her it was a great cleaner.

I could have killed her.....

Anyway, good to know that the diablos are robust enough to handle acetone......(unless you are just having fun with me in which case I will report with photos of my dissolved shafts

Thanks.

Wear rubber gloves too prevent severe skin cracking, especially in the winter when hands are more dryer than other times of the year.
I also step out on the deck when using acetone and I prefer not to store my soiled rags inside the house garbage.

X 2 on the acetone just soak them for 15 min and recheck them vane side only . you will be ok that keeps you from scratching your arrows , if you are leary about it just try one first.

Good point. Oddly enough, the old MSDs for acetone described prolonged or direct skin contact would eventually cause sever organ(kidney) damage. Definately the fumes cause neurological problems.

Now it doesn't mention any of that stuff. But then again, right now eggs are good for you too. :eusa-think:
Most definately causes cancer if you use it in California.

You will not damage the shafts. Strip off the old vanes as best you can and being careful not to score the shaft. As mentioned, pour enough acetone into a narrow glass jar. Have enough acetone to cover about 4" of the shaft. Remove your plastic nocks. It'll wipe clean in 15-20 minutes.

I'll say the obvious. It is highly flammable and use in a well ventilated area.
