I like long strips of soft pipe insulation ...shove em in with a long skinny screwdriver. Every bit helps plus free.

I used leftover high density poly foam packing material, cut into long strips a little bigger than the ID of the rail. Removed the stirrup and packed it in with a wooden dowel. It's easy, it weighs next to nothing, it's reversible, and it seemed to help with the bright hollow 'clink' sound, now its a much quieter dull 'thunk' :shh:

....has anyone considered the dampness and moisture which may reside inside the rail upon using said implements of sound suppression?

This is why I used scent free wax to seal the mainframe ends.

....although an ingenious idea, might nefarious moisture find it's way still through the openings in which fasteners are placed to hold the stock to the rail? :eusa-think: ....might the gluing of a small weight inside the rail (although adding unwanted weight) work in taming any tuning fork sound issues and deaden the sound?

Look up a product called Dap-tex.

Latex based expanding foam. Extremely easy, light weight, water clean up. If I recall correctly from my couch, it's closed cell, so no water permission .

Maybe I'll try some on the next build and see it it makes a difference.

The only way to eliminate water as an infiltrator it to allow it and allow it a way to drain just as easy, or to block it and fill the rail completely

I seal the plug end and the trigger box ends with a big plug of clear rtv silicone....no water is getting in the foam.
