First Doe...

Post by axis »

Shot my first axis doe with my Exomax Saturday. There not very big up close. but you can't grill it, till you kill it. Thats what I like to do, is eat them. I tryed to hold out for a buck but, after about five hunt with out a shot. A doe would be just as good. She was 20 yards from me. I was sitting on a log
watching some deer up on the hill, when they just showed up out of no were. When they got in front of me I was trying to make up my mind, witch one. Then one of them turned to go up the hill, other one turned too.She gave me a quartering a way shot, so I took it. Right through both lungs and cliped the heart, she went 50 yards and crashed. Hunting with the crossbow is still unbelievble. The next day I just kept playing the hunt over and over in my head. I'm going to try that corn beef recipes from deerslayr, can't wait.

Well done Axis. Just out of curiosity, how do you keep the meat from spoiling in that heat? Do you use ice containers inside the cavity, hang it in a refrigerator, or get it butchered immediately?
