Shooting coyotes

Post by Reinyrooster »

Not crossbow related but taking the .270 out tomorrow morning and try and thin out the local coyote population.
Wish us luck.

Good luck! A .270 will work perfect. Over the past few seasons I've come to understand one thing. Regardless of what you are hunting or the weapon your carrying, when you see a coyote it instantly becomes a coyote hunt. I used to let them pass because I didn't want to mess up my hunt. Now I know that if you see one, they've already messed up your hunt. You might as well get even and terminate them with extreme prejudice. Otherwise they'll be back another day to mess up another hunt and will just keep chasing your deer out of the area.

Get'em!

X2 on that! My buddy had 2 sneak in close to him during archery season, without thinking he clicked the safety off on the crossbow and when they heard the metallic click they immediately took off like rockets.
Good luck!
You shouldn't have that problem with a rifle, but unless you're lucky, there's a lot to learn about hunting them.

Good luck also. When I’m hunting coyotes or bobcats, there’s nothing sporting for me. I just want to kill them.
Hope you kill a bunch.

Where we live there are a lot of coyotes. We see them in our neighborhood a lot. One of them got my neighbors cat off their front stoop early one morning. Even though we see them all the time, my Dad said he has only ever shot one. First, there was a lot of snow which is very unusual for where we are. Then, it was the morning before Christmas. Dad said he had his favorite rifle, a Win 94 that is 356 Win, and that this was actually a good looking coyote.

Had the Winchester model 783 in .270 with a nice Bushnell BDC scope. Still waiting for its first kill.

A year ago ( 2017, Dec) , during the last 3 days of “gun” season (ML or SG), I stayed in my blind from noon until about dark : a long, cold wait.
With about 30 minutes of league light left, this beautiful coyote stood on top of my corn pile and ate until virtually dark. Then it quit eating .
