Sloppy trigger on my new Matrix Bulldog 355/360 Bull pup

I recently purchased my first crossbow and shot it for the first time. My only experience with trigger mechanisms is on my rifle or shotgun and they are what I refer to as tight. My trigger on the Matrix Bulldog has a lot of free play before I reach that tight spot. Is this normal in Excalibur or other crossbow trigger mechanisms?
