Matrix string stretch?

Post by Ferguson Outfitters »

I finally changed a string on one of my matrix, brace height is recommended at 1-1 1/2”. 1 1/2” is where the line is on the rail, I usually set it to 1 1/4”.

The new string with one twist is at 1 3/4”, how long until it stretches?

My experience on the 330 and higher matrix ....the stock string never stops stretching...... A better Flemish excalibur string a little better
Will probably need 3 additional adjustments. A
quality Flemish custom string from one of our forum string masters will be much less maby set as far as a half inch from bumpers and lt will settle in to a quarter overnight and after 20 shots or so.
Seems like after a week or 40 shots might need a twist or 2. But will be pretty stable over time. Seems like during the after Turkey season lull till August practice season they grow a tiny bit on mine just hanging around.

I don’t use bumpers. I’d almost think I got short stringed.

If'en its a Factory string it will stretch some because of the material its made from n no pre-stretch. Plus they are makin them shorter to compensate

I didn’t know they made them shorter. That kinda negates the simplicity of changing a string in the field because the new string CANNOT immediately be adjusted within specs. This would make the recurve technology and theory defunct.

Now I have to stretch out my two backup strings so they are spot on if I have to change them in the field.

Put a brand new string on your excal and go out and shoot it. I doubt that you will find over a 1/8" or so difference in POI out to 40 yards. Strings do not have to be pre stretched to shoot well.

I guess its covered here for what its worth. I guess if I change a string sooner than every four years I’d know this stuff.

Adjust your brace height to the proper position, then take a sharpie and mark the sides of the barrel right under the string. Now a quick glance will tell you if your string needs adjusting. Much easier for older eyes like mine.

I have mine marked at 1 1/4” with white paint.

The factory line is 1 1/2”

There is no way to adjust a proper brace height with the new string. Its sitting at 1 3/4”

have you tried shooting with the factory new string at 1 3/4 vrs. your 1 1/4 :?: there might not be enough difference in accuracy to worry about for hunting situations and if not then changing in the field would not be an issue. but if you wanna shoot a fly then it might be an issue

At 30 yard hunting ranges brace height really is not a worry dont "over worry" the issue. I have not seen much difference between a half inch or 1/8 of my preferred line. Coming from stickbows l think we crossbow hunters get to anal. Sometimes l have to stop myself also. Then again I'm a 30 yard and under hunter. Not shooting at 100 yards like on the "unrealistic" ravin commercials.

Well, I shoot this particular grizzly (my favorite) much farther than 30 yards on many occasions. Even take hogs out to 60-70 yards. This little underrated setup is like my beloved 44 or 30 WCF Leveraction, all you need for everything, git-r-done.

I’m not a stick bow hunter either, I actually choose a rifle first but a crossbow in restricted areas.

I don’t believe in restricting weapons, I think the policies are instituted by pinheads. I think there should just be “Hunting” season. More game are lost due to folk who just grab a weapon to meet the restrictions and they really aren’t proficient with it. Basically the pinheads making these restrictions don’t care about the animals and the restrictions are based on false assumption.
