Two Crossbow Hunts Completed....

Post by XB I GO »

My Dad sponsored a kid named Jordan that got a Make A Wish to play baseball but wanted two more things: Go fishing and go hunting. Make A Wish doesn't do those kind of things. We had him and his little brother and Mom come to Texas and meet us at a ranch. This is one of the few places you can hunt in the summer and it doesn't matter how old you are and it only cost $48 for a license. We spent one day shooting the Matrix 380. The next day we walked all over the ranch looking for something legal to shoot. Late in the afternoon we were about done because it was 114 degrees outside! My Dad saw a group of Ibex on a little rock ledge. We snuck up close and they stood up. Jordan was able to make a heart shot and the Ibex ran down to the bottom and went down under a tree. It took a while to get down there and my Dad said he was too hot and tired to risk the Ibex getting up so he let Jordan shoot it again and this time it was a double lung shot and it stayed put right there. We used some 125 grain Grizzly broadheads on BEZS. The first one went through but the second one stuck in just barely poking out the far side.

Next we gave a wish for a kid that is going from foster care to an adoption family. This girl is 13 years old. I'm not allowed to put her name or anything. She was adopted 2 weeks ago and her new family agreed to give her the wish list she wanted. She had hunting on the list because one of her foster family's taught her to shoot but never got around to taking her hunting. They flew here and we met. We spent a day looking for something to sneak up on. She saw this New Zealand Mt. Goat. They call them that in Texas to sell them to trophy hunters but its really just a hybrid goat. Anyway we found it because it was butting heads with another goat and we heard the noise and went to check it out. She went sneaking through the brush and got around 25 yards and made a heart shot. The goat kept butting head with the other for a few seconds then he let out a scream and ran full speed for a second when he fell down. She is going to put the head and pictures on her wall. Very cool girl that is my age!
