String Life On The Lower Velocity Excalibur's

Post by 10Ring »

I tried to search this w/o any success.

Does anyone have any figures for an approx. number of shots a well cared for string will last on a lower velocity Excalibur, such as a Matrix Grizzly?

I am sure there are some varying numbers out there, just looking for approximates.

I am assuming the centre serving would be the first thing to go.

Thanks

I shot a Vixen and an Exocet for 3D about 20 years ago and I do not recall getting that kind of string life. Sounds like string materials have improved :D

Wish I had kept that Vixen :(

I changed my Grizzly string recently after 3 or 4 seasons of use. This particular string killed hundreds of animals and had hundreds of practice shots. I noticed it was needing adjustment more often and I just didn’t want a breakage in the field. I figured three years plus on a $35 string is more than I could hope for and economical. From now on I’m changing mine after two seasons.

This thing still clocks at 300fps with 100gr heads and the bow stayed cocked for long periods of time, sometimes as much as 2 days or more just because I wanted to.

Most importantly The angel majesty servings our string makers use are much better than the stock.

You can coat the serving with a little JB weld at the contact points for the trigger instead of wax and the serving will last forever but the string still will eventually start to stretch more, especially if you leave it in a hot truck cab.

My 308 Short does a real number on the serving. I am not familiar with JB Weld, looked it up and see that it’s hd epoxy. Could this cause any damage to the rail or or trigger? I like the idea.

Do not follow this advice. This will destroy your string, probably your trigger and likely your rail too.

You’d be better off taking the trigger apart and sanding then polishing the string latch! I do that on my triggers if they are rough on servings.

The best thing to do is contact Excalibur and let them fix it. Do not try any BS quick fix ideas like coating your serving with anything because it will just lead to greater problems.

If your hooks are damaging the string then you probably rather polish them.

You guys know about putting JB weld on y’alls serving? Sure are some “Expert” comments on the subject.

If you a understand my concept, basically like JB weld wax not a big glob. You’ll see the impression marks where you need to “wax” it, and only there. No string, release, or rail damage occurs. The only thing that happens is the stuff flys off after so many shots.

I guess you guys have tried it and know, NOT !

So really the only “BS” is the peanut gallery comments from folk that never tried it.
