.003 Vs .001 ?

Post by Buck »

Has anyone noticed a difference in performance? I have BEEs and Zombie Slayers in both .001 and .003 and have been unable to notice much if any change in poi. Granted, I am shooting 40 yards and less. Has anyone realized an actual difference in accuracy? I’d imagine that the straightness really comes into play as the shots get longer. Are the .001s worth the extra $$?

I have often shot both at the same target and the only way to tell which is which is by reading the # on the shaft. The POI is the same out to 50 yards for me.

Yes, per arrow. $15-$20 less per dozen.

Apparently it takes a truly precise target shooter to recognize the difference between 0.001" and 0.006" straightness shaft in a vert compound bow. Certainly at hunting ranges there will be negligible difference as far as killing things. Long range targets will be another story upon itself. But, like Danny Miller has said and as Paul indicated, the difference is small price wise so it's not a bad idea if it buys you confidence.

I don't believe there's a big difference. What it comes down to is your own expectations and personality. Do you want to shoot the same hole at 50 yards or are you good with 4" groups at 50 yards? Some perfectionist types will insist on the best of the best if it means a quarter or half inch tighter grouping at 100 yards and others are happy with minute of deer at 30 yards. Have fun experimenting....I use Zombies with my excals. :eusa-whistle:

What paul said. I shoot Zombies because I believe stiffer is better in a crossbow, and Zombies and super stiff.

To piggyback on this thread without high jacking, I’m new to the crossbow world and recently purchased a Micro 355 which came with 4 Excalibur Black Eagle Quills. I want to buy more arrows and will purchase pre-made arrows for now. Are the Excalibur Proflight (0.001) @ $99 worth’s the extra money over the “regular” Quills (0.003) @ $69?

I shoot 2.5" groups at 100 yards consistently with my Matrix 380.
The ONLY arrows I have shot to date from that bow came from the wonderful work bench of Big John.
And those are crafted from .001 Zombie Slayers.
I will never purchase anything else. Period.

Nog

Has anyone tried the Carbon Express® PileDriver 20" X-Bolt. Apparently they are .004, but seem to have gotten decent reviews.
I'd like to hear what your thoughts are on the arrows.

Yes, I bought a dozen and they’ve shot great for me. Can’t tell a difference in accuracy vs my BE Executioners.
I only have the ability to shoot out to forty yards though. But that’s as far as I shoot when hunting anyway.
