Aluminum Arrows

Post by jody5252 »

I know there have been previous posts about this, but I wanted to refresh my memory... 2219, Easton Mags., (.305 ID) for use on a Micro 315. Using steel inserts. (Ethics Archery) I contacted Bruce, the Tech support guy, and he mentioned what they had available. 60, 150, 175, grs... Using a 16.5" shaft. Which would be the proper insert to use? Range, out to 40 yds., with 50, the absolute max.! The weight of a bare shaft is, 226/.229 grs... With all of the components I plan to use, the total arrow weight (with 150 gr. Insert) will be appx., 550/558 grs., (with 125 gr. BH) and 525/534 grs., (with 100 gr. BH) I prefer a heavy Arrow. Best FOC is priority. Components used are, Lumenok, 2" Blazer vanes, Wraps, Dirt Nap BH... Please advise. Thanks.

Man that's a huge jump in weight from 60 to 150. I like 110 grains but I'm using carbon with 125 grain heads. If you like the heavier FOC then I would go with the 150 grains and your 125 grain heads. I ask this question to all aluminum users.......................... WHY?

I failed to mention that, the estimated total arrow weight given, was with the 150 gr., insert. The 60 gr., would be a lot less, of course... Thought I better mention that. Thanks for the reply... Always have used Aluminum. Old school, I guess. Eventually, I will need to upgrade.

I shoot an Easton 2219 aluminum arrow, but I'm shooting a 20" arrow with a 150grn BoltCutter. I very seldom shoot deer more than 20 yards. Complete pass through every time. Shot a deer with a 20" DCA(Deer Crossing Arrow)carbon with a 150grn BoltCutter at approx 17 yards and hit the deer slightly high broadside and had approx. 11" of arrow still inside the deer with 4" sticking out the opposite side.I was hunting from a ground blind at the time. Lucky I was able to watch the deer after the shot because she rolled over and down a hill breaking off both ends of the arrow with no blood trail. Didn't really go anywhere but still lucky I was able to watch her after the shot. Even though my shot was slightly high,I feel with my aluminum arrow set up would have been a complete pass through.

Carbon VS. Aluminum would not have been the difference on this deer. Did you hit the spine?
