Took the plunge on a Scorpyd DS 380

Post by 76chevy »

Got the whole package for $699 USD brand new. both long and short cockers, sling, 6 bolts, scorpion venom kit.

Loving this bow so far. Easier to cock than the the Matrix and so fast and quiet.

It might be my go to for this season!

only thing I dont like is the "have to shoot to let it down". This might be an issue in hunting season but not now with backyard target practice sessions.

Anybody else shooting a DS?

won't be getting rid of the excal anytime soon though. Its just too reliable and one I can count on should something happen in the field...

The Scorpyd bows are very well built. I own the Death stalker 420 model and it's a pleasure to shoot.

It's hard to believe such a light draw weight produces that kind of speed! :)

.....I believe there is a tool you can buy that will allow de-cocking without shooting an arrow....don't know what it is called...you might want to call skorpyd and ask them.

The decocking device is called the Diffuser.

I carry the small Morrell Discharge target and some spare arrows in the back of my truck to discharge my Scorpyds at the end of the hunt.

The Morrell can be had at about $20 us or $25 cdn.

Use the Firenock U nock for best accuracy.

Please feel free to Pm me if you require any Scorpyd advice.

IMO the DS is one of the best compound hunting bows you can own. Extremely light weight and plenty accurate. They are also very easy on servings.

I had the original DS380 and now have a DS420. Both are great bows and fun to shoot but my Excaliburs are not going anywhere. I have been shooting broadheads lately into a Blob target and the arrows from my Matrix 350 LE are sure easier to pull than the ones from the DS420.

My BD target is getting bit worn out. This arrow from the DS420 blew through past the fetching! :)

Jeff, have you tried laying the target flat and jumping up and down on it? That should correct your passthroughs on the target.

Yup. In less than 5 shots through the same hole you'll even pass through a Spyderweb Target.

I have a 130 lb and a 115 lb. I've had troubles getting acceptable consistently with the 130 but the 115 is a charmer. Norm gave me some nocks and a cable slide to try so we shall see. The troubled one is the first generation that had no arrow support at the reat of the mainframe and the 115 has support. I've been told to crank down the arrow retainer and it didn't help. I've also been told that the faster bows are more difficult to shoo. Didn't respect that last one.
I still have a 150 Ventilator that shoots well and had a 125 and 165 and both were great. Scorpyds are good bows but the 130 DS I'm not liking. As much as I like my Scorpyds, I do not hunt with them. Excaliburs feel like my Browning 20 gauge SBS and I can fix anything with very little effort no matter what goes wrong.

I thought about putting 110# limb on mine. It is still plenty of speed for me and easier to cock.
