Equinox Limb ?Problem? Or not?

Post by PastorSlaughter » Sun Sep 08, 2019 7:22 pm

Deer season in Ohio starts in 20 days. So, I was checking my gear. With a cotton ball, I found a little tiny splinter on one of the limbs of my Equinox. It still shoots perfectly (bullseyes at 20, 30, & 40 yards). I think it’s no real problem, but thought I’d ask the forum to share some wisdom with me. Part of me wants to be able to make a case for buying something new and awesome! But that probably isn’t going to happen. This crossbow is probably fine. Worst case, I get new limbs (not even sure if they still make them??). What’s your advice?
I can’t attach a pic. Board attachment quota has been reached.

Snap off the splinter, sand it down a little if you want and go hunting. You can always request an RMA after the season and Excalibur will fix you up.

One small splinter is not a big deal i bet it is on the edge just cut and sand it so it is smooth your limbs are made of many hunderd's of strands and one splinter will not cause an issue and the new limbs will not be a perfect camo match to the riser as different batches of camo dip vary slightly .
I would relax and deal with it myself you are good to hunt.

On your Equinox, that little splinter was probably there for two years before you noticed it. No big deal

I had a 3 "+ splinter on a limb on my Vortex once and snapped it off and shot the bow daily for almost 2 years before swapping out the limbs. It was shooting as good the day I swapped the limbs as it was new out of the box.

I used BONDIC on my Equinox to seal a small splinter rather then breaking it off.
Been two years now hundreds of shots and still looking good.
I guess it all depends on what the splinter looks like and it's location.
(Inside or outside surface of limb.)

Use of the Bondic help to maintain the surface camo appearance making the location of the splinter not so obvious.

I was toying with the idea of getting a newer crossbow, but I’ve talked myself out of it (with Dan Miller’s help!) What a guy! He’s a pretty colorful guy. At one point in the conversation he paused and said! “ I’m no Sunday school teacher.” I said, “well since you brought it up, I actually am a pastor.” I can’t remember exactly what he said. And I probably wouldn’t repeat it if I did. But it was pretty hilarious. I bet it’s one of the few times he’s ever been caught off guard and conversation. It was pretty funny. I’m going to have to make it over there to the shop sometime. It’s about a 4 hour drive but I think it would be worth it.

Anyway, I’m gonna keep on using my equinox. It is a deer killing beast. I’m going to try to quiet it down a little bit and I might put a crank on it so I can cock it in the tree easier. And I’m considering putting the anti-dry fire thing on there. But I already have the scope dialed in. So I probably don’t want to mess with it until after the season.

As for the splinter, I’m convinced it is no problem at all. I don’t think I’m going to do anything to it. I might put a drop of super glue on it maybe.

Danny can leave you speechless at times

It would be worth the drive to see him the way I see it.

A few weeks back I drove 5 + hours to visit with Danny and watch a few strings being made and chat about crossbows.

Priceless!

Anyway, a drop of glue and later lightly sand to prevent an accidentsl sliver poke . Ouch!!

I had a small splinter on my 350LE year before last and Excalibur had me a new set in three days. I sanded it down and finished the season with it before I swapped the limbs.
