My buddy called me w scope trouble.

Post by Riflemanz »

My buddy has a matrix 355 w tac-zone scope and today he told me he's out of elevation adjustment on the scope.
How does he fix this problem?

Two spacers out of a pop can under the scope rear ring is what I always do. Do it on rifles/ pellet guns quiet often as well. Don't want to do that, lower rings help also. Could also turn existing rings around- Front one make back ring-back one on front sometimes helps. CHEERS!

....I would call the Doctor, Danny Miller and see what he says...He might tell you to ship it back and he will send you another or call Excalibur and explain to them...and the last thing I would do is tell your buddy to invest in a better scope (never, never, never have had an issue with a Leupold....)
I know many love the tac-zone but this is MHO....

Danny's phone number is 1.740.438.2312.
he is in Sardis, OH.

Good luck!

I'd being giving the setup a solid look over. Unless he is going for long range, that's either a moving scope base, incorrect seated rings or a bad scope. Nearly impossibly to run out of adjustment on an excalibur at hunting distances.

Sumpin ain't right, almost never have trouble of elevation range. Bad rings or not into the grooves correctly, could be a bad scope

I'll tell him to drop it off at my house so I can go over it. He's not real experienced with crossbows. I check all screws and then remount the scope and see what happens.

I think if you need to shim a scope up you should put the spacers under the base not the rings. We lap in the rings with a precision metal rod to make sure they are perfectly even on high end rifle scopes so they don't slip or damage the scope. I have seen plastic tape inside the rings on some Walmart stuff so other than damaging the scope tube it may work out fine, it's just not the 'correct' way to do it.
Never heard of a crossbow being that far off, maybe mismatched rings? Could try switching rings front to rear to verify, but I would bet on a bad scope or loose screws...

Question at what distance is your buddy shooting when they are adjusting the elevation.

If it is any distance other than 20 yds. Then they should start over and check their zero sight in at 20 yd.
Then move the target out to 50 yds and use their speed ring to adjust the elevation up or down only.
Then go back to 20 and fine tune their zero if need be.

When your buddy adjusts elevation up or down does the point of impact change.
I would try one other thing before calling Excalibur.
Adjust the elevation slowly counting each tick all the way down from where it maxed out. Do not force.
While doing so look into the scope at a fixed spot and see if the crosshairs moves in response to the adjustment.
No indication of movement Call Excalibur.
If there is then
Reverse the adjustment back half the number of the click count.
Then try to sight in at 20 yds again.
If that don't help then it is time to call customer service.
I would think it would be highly unusual to have to use shims on a Excalibur original setup.
Unless of course after market components have been introduce into equation

I have my friends 355 and as soon as I opened the case I saw the problem.
Image
The scope ring jumped the base on the left side.
Very easy fix. I then checked all screws and bolts.
I adjusted brace height, waxed the string, cleaned the rail, sighted it in at 10 yds for him, were going to meet at the range on Thursday. His arrows are mismatched so I gave him some of my diablos. He needs to order some bees. I’m glad I could help him.

HA! That exactly what I did two weeks ago and put an arrow into my basement wall.
