I even took the trouble to polish the latch with Mother's_Metal_Polish
I'm not a latch specialist, but it's been shown to me that often the rough spot are actually voids in the metal, instead of high spots. They must be sanded out, simple polishing only make them look pretty.
You dismantle the whole trigger housing for that or you work within the tight space when it's still assembled?

Go here and scroll down. Start with that. I won't recommend on a public forum that anyone opens up the trigger box. Your warranty will be void, and it's potentially unsafe.

Let me start off by saying I agree the string needs to be either replaced or reserved and the latch needs to be addressed. I have a question though. Can he buy another hunt or two by swapping the string around. That way the fray would be against the smooth latch. Would still need to fix the rough latch but might give him a little more time to do so.
Yes as long as it is only frayed and not broke that should work. I recently did just that on a Scorpyd DS420 and shot another 100 or so shots out of it before changing the string out. It is till shootable but I am going to have it reserved.

You run a grave risk taking one apart and doing anything to it. If you do not polish it while the trigger unit is together and complete, send it to Excalibur. If you choose to follow my suggestions on my website, you take responsibly yourself. It is your risk. Assuming you have good common sense with mechanical repairs and some ability with your hands, it would be difficult to imagine you will have a problem if you read and follow my suggestions. If you aren't 100% sure, do not do it. Without being able to clearly see the latch surfaces, it is trial and error, meaning you polish and then shoot the bow to see how much wear there is.
In the high poundage bows, it if isn't mirror smooth, you will not have optimal serving wear. My 360TD was wearing half way though the serving in 30 shots. A real quick polish job turned into no visible wear in 30 shots. One of the draw backs of higher speed recurves is serving wear with lots of shooting, live with it. If you are like 90% of crossbow hunters, you won't car but learn to reserve and accept the fact of wear and you will live a better life with an awesome bow.

I ended up finishing the season with the damaged string that was on it. I also did the 180 reversal on the string to stretch it's life to the max like some had suggested. That was a great idea I hadn't thought of myself. Thanks for the tip. I ended up harvesting a nice size doe with my micro 335. The damage on the animal from the killzone broadhead was very impressive to say the least. The entry hole was the same size as the exit hole, approx 3 inches! It looked like a sword had gone through the animal, incredible!

I'm beginning to wonder if the damage to the serving actually started from the guardian anti dry fire mechanism, which the string has landed on 3-5 times mostly when de-cocking, etc.. I say that because I see no visible imperfection in the string release claws which would suggest an issue there.... Does that idea hold water you think? I guess that I got about 150 shots of service life from this string including hunting in stands with no fire etc.

It’s possible but from the pics it looks like the damage is more in line with the latch. It just takes a very minor imperfection to cause havoc on your serving and most of the time cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Congrats on the freezer filler

what sort of sanding compound should I be looking to buy? The mother's polish that I have isn't aggressive enough I think to sand the imperfections down!

It’s not paper backed, read again you’ll see what Boo recommends is a honing abrasive from Lee Valley, similar to wet/dry paper but plastic backed.
