Steep Ravine Thanksgiving buck (part 2)

Post by Normous »

A few years ago I posted my best buck taken to date and noted the great effort required to extract a deer after dropping dead at the bottom of a steep ravine.

Fast forward, below is my 5th challenging recovery when hunting this honey hole. It is expected they will turn downhill when hit.

Patti and I worked like a mule team 6 inches at a time to get him up the 45y steep incline then onto the cart and with 90 yards of deadfalls to contend with next.
The last 1 km cart walk was easy. A full moon certainly helped.

33 y chip shot.

That's a beauty of a buck! Congrats! In the mountains I've noticed they have a tendency to turn downhill when hit hard. I swear they pick up speed heading downhill until they crash.
