SIGHTING IN THE A420TD

Post by amythntr »

.....well the first time out last Friday with the A420TD I had a problem sighting it in...in fact I could not....I kept shooting high and that was off of a tripod.

.....I was using a Leupy Crossbones scope, of which I am very familiar....I had the "up/down" knob turned all the way down and couldn't go any further....I gave up and went home....but not before losing 2 of the 6 Spynal Tapps....I found half of the arra with Firenock so it wasn't a total loss on one arra but the other was gone

Speaking to Boo, he suggested that I try a different scope....so i changed out to another Crossbones and went out again on Sunday....same results....I had an idea while at the range....and that was to move the scope forward on the mount. Well that was for the most part the trick....still could not get it dead on at 20....about 3-4 inches high....but it was pretty much dead on at 30 and 40 so that is how I am going to leave it....

.....Oh, while at the range, a few people were shooting their recurve bow's and one of the gentleman holding up an arra asked me if I lost one....guess what?.....It was the Spynal Tapp in perfect condition sans the Firenock....no split in the shaft or anything....So I really wound up losing 1 Spynal Tapp when the smoke cleared!!!

.....i am not done playing with the sighting in....but that will be if and when I have more time as I have a Hawke XB30 coming in....Which by the way I like more than the Leupy Crossbones...

.....So if I had to make a comparison, I like the A360 more than the A420TD as of now.

Well it sounds like you're getting close. Aside from the scope settings, how did it shoot? :eusa-popcorn:

Oddly enough, I sighted in a 420Td last weekend and it also shot high, way high. I was able to bring it down, but must have clicked the Tact100 30-40 clicks down.

I'll tell you one thing, when you shoot over a target with the 420, those puppies are long gone! Happy for Luminocks or I'd have never looked 100 yards further than I had estimated it would have landed

Anthony, so sorry to hear you had a bad time at the range. Hopefully the problem gets figured out and you can make that 420 your primary carry.

Been too rainy and windy here, I only have Jelly Belly sighted in. My 360TD is still waiting for its turn. Maybe this weekend.

just curious if the Tact 100 scope did come with your TD420 why did you not use it? Unless of course you did not buy the package if that was possible. Dead on with mine and took only 3 shots to zero in when I 1st received my bow.

....I have changed out ALL Excalibur’s to Leupy’ Crossbones and more recently the Hawke XB30’s there were too many complaints with the OEM scopes and NEVER had an issue with Leupy’s; guns and CB’s

Currently have the 420 TD and I think the Tact 100 is excellent. Last Matrix 380 I upgraded the Tact Zone scope as I thought it was terrible. Dawn sent me the Twilight DLX and it was a night and day difference.

If you are running out of adjustment on the scope maybe you could use a shim between the ring and the scope. Depending on what you need you can shim the front or rear scope ring. If you do not have brass shim stock you can cut a piece of aluminum soda or beer can. Just cut it with a pair of scissors. Be careful it will be sharp. If you nee it thicker use 2 strips of aluminum. It sounds like something with the scope rail is not square/parallel to the rest of the bow.

.... thanks... I was able to get it pretty much sighted in dead nuts at 30 yards by moving the scope forward as far as it could be moved until stopped by the rings... I’m going to try changing out to the Hawke XB30...my problem is time and range access!
