Dead doe but a weird shot!
I was sitting on stand this morning and had already had a spike and a large doe with a small fawn walk by. At about 9:30 I had two does come running in and stop in front of me. Before I could pick up my bow the larger one turned and spotted me in my tree from 40 yards out. She stared at me for several minutes and then did a few foot stomps and started walking slowly up the trail. As soon as her head went behind a tree I picked up my bow and got ready to shoot but when she cleared the tree she turned and walked to 30 yards staring at me again. I though about shooting her in her chest but waited and after a minute or so she turned broadside and I touched the trigger. The sound of the hit was extra loud and for a second I thought something had broke on the bow or something. She ran straight away from me up a ridge and disappeared in the thick foliage. The other deer had been oblivious to what was going on until I shot and just trotted off back the way they came in from. I waited an hour and finally got down and checked my arrow which smelled of guts and was stuck in the ground at an angle to the shot path. There was some bright red lung blood at the shot site but when she ran the blood was barely trickling out and it was a very hard job tracing her as I would only find a few small specks every few yards. It took me about 45 minutes to find her a little over a 100 yards away. I was surprised to see that I had hit her perfectly for a DL shot on her right side just behind the shoulder but the arrow had deflected and gone lengthwise through her body and her guts and came out just above her lower leg shank on her left side. Everything is her was mush including her lungs and guts.
I have heard of this happening a time or two on the forums but it was a 1st for me after over 50 years of bow hunting.
Sorry, no pictures today as my cell phone was on the charger instead of in my pocket.

I’ve never seen that either but here read about it a few times. Congrats on the doe!

Congrats on the doe. That does sound like a weird hit. It almost sounds like the doe jumped the string and was in the process of whirling around when the arrow made contact. That's about the only way I could envision it. I've had an alert doe broadsided facing away at 38 yards do almost a 180 degree turn before my arrow hit. My entrance was on the side opposite of the one I shot at. I got lucky and she fell in sight. Sometimes the hits are hard to explain and that's when a little luck goes a long way. Good job on the tough recovery.

Were you using a two-blade broadhead?
I’ve had that happen with two-blade heads, but never 3 or 4-blade heads.

Congrats. That unexplained stuff is just that.
I agree that the doe possibly changed positions being that it was on full alert.
Either way it's all good !

Congratulations on your harvest sometimes a bit of luck goes a long way you got it done.
Just a guess maybe just one blade hit the edge of a rib making the arrow kick to the side as it entered redirecting it.

Congratulations! You made a good shot, followed up diligently and made a successful recovery. There is no accounting for what sometimes happens after we shoot. I once shot a doe right behind the shoulder and she fell right to the ground thrashing. As I watched I saw the lumenok equipped arrow fly out of her neck. She must have turned as I shot and the arrow went through her chest and then through her neck. Strange things happen.
Good job!
