I’ve got a Ameristep doghouse I use during turkey season I’ve had deer walk right by it during turkey season. When I’m bow hunting on the ground I’ll use the ghost blind it works good but I mostly hunt out of permanent elevated boxes or ladder stands. I’ve found that in the winter months the Doghouse blind sticks out more with less foliage than springtime and I don’t like leaving it out for extended periods due to hunting several different locations. My buddy leaves his doghouse out all season and he has good success from it but it goes out in August and doesn’t come out of the woods until late December so the deer are use to seeing it.

I tend to use ground blinds as my hip makes it difficult to get up the tree.

I just started using a Doghouse ground blind 2 years ago.

Been pretty impressed so far.

While they're a little smaller than a hub blind, they are big enough for Xbow or rifle hunting and they are much easier to transport, set up and knock down.

Shot my last 3 Xbow deer (2 bucks and a doe), my last gun season buck and last seasons spring turkey from it. (just got this years 8 pt from it a week ago with my Excal.)

I do try and brush it in a little.

For the deer I try and get it out ahead of time, but don't leave it out the whole season.

Wear a face mask and a black top.

If there's wind, don't open the side windows because it blows through and out with your scent. If you HAVE to see out a side window, just zip it open a small crack.

Use shooting sticks so you don't have to move the bow/gun much (I use Primos bipod trigger stick).

I now have two. If you watch the sales, etc., you can get one pretty cheap, just had Cabelas price match one for $45 (with a $7 fishing lure I went over the $50 for free shipping too).

Doghouse blind here to. It stays out from September to the first week of January. It is six years old now and still holding up really well.

After it’s out a couple of weeks the deer ignore it. Have killed several deer out it. Have had Bobcats walk in front of it and sit down about 8 to 10 feet away. Never alarmed or spooked. Hard to fool their noses.

Just bought an Ameristep 2 Man Chair Blind. Using it along with the Doghouse Blind.

I use a double bull and get busted some times and go back in the next day and do good . same s my old tree stand . IMHO the are just as good as a tree stand if you play the wind. I'm getten to old to get up in a tree . I have killed my last 15 or so deer from a ground blind and a load of turkeys.

I don't use the dog house I use the bigger ground blinds I brush them in a bit and I wear Black and sit back from the open windows . Not had a problem I also use the little cover scent . I also try to set it up close to a month a head of season so the deer get used to it I leave the windows that I will be using open so no surprise to the deer .

Painting the window black with Fabric paint accomplishes the same thing.
I use this paint:
https://www.amazon.com/Tulip-Dimensional-Fabric-Paint-Matte/dp/B002PNXNI6/ref=sr_1_1?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIh5iplYrE5QIVY_7jBx2gpwB9EAMYASAAEgISpPD_BwE&hvadid=390320640944&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9026493&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1o1&hvqmt=b&hvrand=2988182737332963927&hvtargid=kwd-305055822681&hydadcr=15253_9600104&keywords=tulip+matte+black&qid=1572441802&sr=8-1

Shop around the Craft stores as well, Hobby Lobby, Jo Ann's, etc. A bottle goes a long ways. Did my Doghouse shooting window flap with one bottle and I did two coats. The paint holds up really well to. I also paint the inside of the blind to touch up faded areas. Works well on the ceiling to for waterproofing.

these deer are staring straight at the blind from across the field, wind in my favor. then they bolt off. blind has been there for about 6 weeks. they seem to know when I'm in it. they bed about 150 to 200 yards from the blind. side zippers only open about an inch or so to peek out of. think I'm gonna try brush blind.

Are you some how being sky lighted in the blind for lack of a better term ? Before I got the ameristep ground blinds I use to build brush blinds and they worked most of the time . I still build them from time to time .

Dang, I set up a blind on the edge of a food plot in plain sight a couple of weeks ago not brushed in at all. I hung a camera and checked it two days later and had a buck and a doe on it the afternoon I set it up walking by the blind paying no attention to it. I hunted it in the rain a few days later and had a doe feed within 10 yards of me for a while. I went back this morning as it was raining again and had two small bucks and a doe all within 20 yards feeding and none bothered to look at the blind at all. You are either getting smelled or sky lighted.

If you think you are being smelled try using Conquest scent Ever calm . It put's the deer at ease around the blind I used it the first time last year and had 5 plus deer does fawns young bucks within a few yards of me not bothered at all . I took a old mature doe and the rest really didn't run . In fact they came back more times .
