S5 Question

Post by ko4nrbs » Thu Nov 14, 2019 8:07 pm

When do you replace the rubber stops on the S5? Mine are beat up some but not split apart yet.

P.S. During hunting season I keep the Exomax on a bed in a spare bedroom. My wife told me to put it on the floor!! Told her no way the Exomax is like family!! She then said get off the bed or go live with your other family. I compromised and put it back in the closet. Boy was I mistaken thinking I was the man of the house!! :(

When you compress them a bit and see cracks, time to change them.

When you pull the rubber bumpers off and see the metal that holds them, take note of the shape. If it's a complete ball, they need to have atleast half of the ball shaved off to give you the longest life of the bumpers.

So it would be flat instead of round?

Boo is giving some good advice here. It creates an air pocket under the rubber which helps absorb the shock, and makes the bumpers last longer. I do like the dbKiller bumpers just a bit more though, the material used is indestructible.

Absolutely! The Dr Stirrup dbkillers are indestructible. They are slightly higher and they are meant to have contact or near contact with the string which is why they lower noise. If you try that with the factory bumpers, they cut through in a heartbeat.
