Almost Shot a Hottie Last Night !
I have seen the buck I am after several times but he doesn't seem to be too interested in the does out in the field. Well last night I had my buck decoy out and a doe came running across the field and stood in front of the buck . Twice she tried to get him to chase her. When she first came across the field I was thinking well doe for the freezer. Then she stood and peed in front of him and pranced around. Suddenly she looked up and down the field. Out came the big ten and he went straight to her and she ran slowly off into the woods with him hot on her tail. About 2 hours later he came back out and fed at the guy across the fields corn plie and then walked back into the woods where the doe was. He had no interest in the decoy. So tonight i'm gonna dress bucky up like bambi's mom and hope he comes for a visit. Or go sit in the guys stand across the field that I have seen him feed at 3 times now lol So if you are thinking the rut is over for me its just starting it seems finally !!

I always set up with safety in mind. In November in Michigan one of the other guys hunting who knows I have a decoy out shot at it with his bow and missed !!! Also this is a bows only zone or wouldn't even think of putting it out .longbow joe wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 8:30 pmWhat ever it takes l love decoy hunting. I draw in many a doe with my doe decoy.

Last night he came out with his girlfriend and went to the corn across the field. Then they came half way across the field to 75 yards. I figured here we go. Well the doe came and walked around my decoy and even sniffed its butt then stood there feeding until dark. The buck walked back to the corn and stood there waiting until his girlfriend came back then they walked off into the woods. Augggggggggg !!!!! If this keeps up she may become fresh tenderloin on the grill lol

I figure I have about another week before he goes noctornal again like every other year here .Not sure why he is so decoy shy but last night he was walking slow and may have been limping thinking he may have been shot at recently. I am thinking I should text the guy that has the corn and ask if he will let me sit in his stand. I have seen that buck and 2 others at his corn in daylight several times and have never seen him in it . I have texted him several times to tell him but he must be too busy to get out lol I guess next year I will need to become a baiter like everyone else around me !

I rely so heavily on my decoy during archery season it's just like my bow and small backpack a necesaty.
I killed about 10 mountable bucks almost every year with the decoy l cant imagine hunting without it.

If you text him, offer to pay for his corn. Corn is cheap, pissing of the hunter beside you(even if he says yes) is expensive. Lots of guys say "ya sure, I won't be there this week..." Until you do shoot one off of their hard work and they realize that could have been them taking the deer. Then the animosity can build up.Timbrhuntr wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 7:29 amI figure I have about another week before he goes noctornal again like every other year here .Not sure why he is so decoy shy but last night he was walking slow and may have been limping thinking he may have been shot at recently. Probably limping because he has been fighting. If he had been shot he would probably already be nocturnal.Timbrhuntr wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 7:29 amI figure I have about another week before he goes noctornal again like every other year here .Not sure why he is so decoy shy but last night he was walking slow and may have been limping thinking he may have been shot at recently. Lol I'm good friends with him he has sat my stands before too ! I text him to laugh because he wasn't there and to tell heim if your just gonne feed them why put up your stand ! This is his main stand every year but he is too busy working this year to sit it. On the other note I have pissed off the hunters on the other side because they are aholes not sure why that woiuld be expensive lol I tried to work with them but some people you just can't be nice too !!!janesy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 8:51 amIf you text him, offer to pay for his corn. And now for the bad news. Just before last shooting time last night he came out with doe at 60 yards ! They were in the woods behind me. I was able to turn around and at 40 yards he stopped and stood there. I shot and heard a load twack thought oh ya. They both ran onto my buddies side. I waited a bit but couldn't find the arrow or blood so backed out. This am I went back and found my arrow about 30 yards in front of where I was sitting straight down in the dirt. No blood on it. I must have hit a small limb and turned the arrow straight down into the ground. I looked and no blood anywhere. Dang it. Well gonna lwave it for a few days then go back in next week and hope I didn't scare him too bad lol

Re: Almost Shot a Hottie Last Night !
He doesn't seem like much of a fighter as he avoids the decoy and I have seen him out in the field with other bucks and he avoids them. He was limping pretty bad and seems to be following that doe close. He seemed fine until 2 nights ago. Now he seems to wait in the woods and once she is at the corn pile for a while he slowly comes out to feed. He was limping last night when I shot at him but can still move pretty quick when he has too ! You could be right but it wouldn't be the first time I have had a wounded buck roaming around here and not go noctornal but seem to hang out at the feeder like he needed it !robertyb wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 11:27 amProbably limping because he has been fighting.
