I have to use a scope on all long gun as my vision is to a point where seeing the bead won't happen .

Unless you have significant vision problems, just make sure your cheek is on the stock and the front bead is on the bird's neck (not the head, gives you a little more margin for error) then push the trigger. The bird will flop for 10 minutes (so it will seem) and you'll be elated.

I used a simmons pro diamond scope 4x32 worked like a charm took a lot of turkeys with it I have to use a scope . you will get many different answers
I also use a Simmons Pro diamond scope on my Mossberg 835. Back when I was young(er) I missed a couple of birds out at 55/60 yards so I got this scope. I have not missed a single bird since and have shot them out to 65 yards using it.

Thanks folks, decided on a Burris Fastfire ll. If that doesn’t work out I’ll try a Simmons scope or something similar. The Kid thinks I’m going to fast, the gun won’t be here until next week.

I shot a bunch of turkeys with just a basic 3" mag. O/U 12ga., I have now gone to a 870 supermag with a red dot sight and am really happy with that combo.
One thing already mentioned, definitely pattern your gun.

I think it has to do with how you hunt them to some degree. We used to spot and stalk. When we did, we figure we had 2 seconds or so to make the shot. In that case, like wing shooting, we do not see the bead. You are in this scenario, shooting a shotgun like it is mean to me shot. You look at your intended target and you point the shotgun and slap the trigger.
We did some classic hunting with deeks and for sure, a red point or ghost sights are highly productive. I never tried a scope but I would imagine very low magnification is appropriate. For some reason I have a hard time if I don't snap shoot with a simple bead, probably because I pay attention to the mid bead and main bead.
Perhaps a red dot is the best of 2 worlds. If you get a red dot, you want a few MOAs as opposed to 1 to 3 MOA.
Pattern your gun and experiment to find the right choke no matter what route you take. If you're using a 12, it isn't any fun. The 20 is a great gauge and with tungsten shot, its barely a disadvantage.

One thing I would add to patterning your gun is use a large piece of paper so you see the entire pattern. Then draw a 10 and 20 inch circle around the main part of the pattern to see what you are getting. Also if you are using cheaper shells to site in make sure you shoot a round of your turkey ammo to make sure it hits the same spot as your cheaper ammo. Then go have some fun. I think you will like the reflex sight. I love mine as you can keep both eyes open and and see the dot out in space in front of you. I used my ff3 wing shooting pheasants and it works great at that too.

I use a big piece of cardboard like what a frig would come in they work great. I draw the 30 in circle first then shoot for the center and count the pellet holes .

Correct! That's why I like the double snowman bead. Forces you to get the cheek down

Before you go dropping serious coin on fancy shotgun loads. Start with Winchester supreme in the black box. If you're not happy with that start spending money.

I used Supreme XX for years. Last few seasons switched to XR and it's much more predictable

If your going with a 20ga I'd look at the Federal Heavywieght # 7's. Real nice even pattern with plenty of pellets in my guns.
