I almost always shoot my deer from a tree stand and usually get a good blood trail but not always. The next to last deer I shot at 35 yards with a DL shot took off and ran almost 90 yards up the side of a steep ridge and fell over. I could see a heavy blood trail starting where I shot the deer going up the hill to where it fell from my stand using binoculars.
The last deer I shot with my bow was at 20 yards and was shot right behind her right leg standing broadside but the arrow somehow deflected and came out right in front of her left rear leg. She ran almost 100 yards before dropping. I only found 3 drops of blood total until she fell. There was lots of blood where she died.
Both these deer were shot using a 100 grain 2" cut Hypodermic head that deployed fully on entrance but has totally different blood trails.

Just be happy the broadhead did its job

You are right Longbow Joe . There is a bit of safety to expandables . I remember once I was taking my arrow out of the quiver . My fixed blade just lightly touched my string . Half my string was gone .
But thank goodness it was an Excalibur so I swapped my string in the field and continued to wait for a deer that never came that night .
