Ontatio Bear 2020

Post by Normous »

Out of the 3 of us I was least prepared for the cold weather bear hunting and shivered my azz of in the woods, Jansey had all sorts of warmer under gear and carnivorous had a lightweight down jacket, both fared better than I. Once warmer weather arrived we got slaughtered by black flies and mosquitoes.

As a group we all brought welcome skills, Jeff is an all day hunt kind of guy with stamina, Chris is the muscle guy who can pack in or haul out anything on his back or drag out.

Thanks guys!! your the best!!

Here is my bear taken using my Scorpyd , BE double carbon arrows and the SWAT X MAG. The X MAG center punched two ribs and smashed the outside leg into fragments. The head still spins two and features some slightly bent blades.

We had welcome very short recoveries this season, 30, 40 and 45y.

I echo all of Norm's sentiments and can only add that I'm very thrilled with the past week. We planned well, we prepared well, both before and after the shot, and we all stepped up to be rewarded completely. Great hunt Guys.

Another amazing week with great friends and to be able to spend time in Northern Ontario is a blessing!

Here are a few pics of my hunt! This is a small boar but exactly what I wanted on my plate! :)

All the hard work and preparation was well worth it!

After soaking the SWAT X MAG in boiling water and Dawn dish washing detergent to remove blood, hair, fat, bone fragments and debris for further inspection, I noticed a full 100% fracture on the outer Black Eagle ZOMBIE shaft 2" below the SWAT head as noted by the pencil.

I build my bear hunting BE shafts using a 6" inner carbon tube also known as the Aero Concept system from Firenock. The Zombie shaft would certainly have failed had it not have been for the double carbon wall construction at the critical front section under the SWAT broadhead. To me , I see it as a potential live saver when hunting dangerous game at close quarters using arrows.

We had some very large bears on camera and I left nothing to chance in case my life depended on it, noting only one crossbow shot. The double carbon wall was a proven performer this time around, not to mention the SWAT X MAG sill spinning true suffering only slightly bent .036" blades after cutting two ribs and the front leg in half on a decent sized boar. Once again, SWAT delivers huge, yet short blood trails, no tracking required.

From now on all my large game arrows will be built using the Aero Concept double carbon wall.
