Quill question...

Post by georgiaboy »

Can someone please tell me the inside diameter of the quill arrows?
Is it .300 :?
I removed the aluminum inserts from my quills and replaced them with 110gr brass inserts to give them more weight so I can shoot the two dozen or so 100 gr spitfires I have and for the life of me I can’t remember the size :(
Thanks in advance :D

Hi. Been a reader for some time and got useful info, but this is my first post. Just upgraded my 380 Mad Max for a Micro Suppressor 400 TD and I just stripped some vanes target shooting...so I took the arrow apart tonight... a Quill 16.5" by Black Eagle for Excalibur. FYI, the rear Rhino insert is 3/4" OAL and weights in at 20.4 grains on my loading scales. The front insert is huge....twice the length of the old Diablo bolts. It is 1 5/8" long and weights 62.4 grains. My reloading caliper put them at 0.298" in diameter, which is the hole diameter of the Quill bolts. By the way, I put in an old 150 grain field point, heated it up gently while tugging on the bolt. Came out easily. Not enough heat to melt any carbon fibres. I have some Diablo inserts and also Gold Tip 110 grain and they boh fit fine in the bolts. I believe they are labelled as .0300". Hope this is of use to someone.
