Unbelieveable Kid

Post by raydaughety »

Guys, I'm not here to pat myself on the back nor bragg, because I think that every Father thinks His children are special or gifted in one way or another. If you'll look back to the thread " Child's First Buck" you'll relive the story of my 7 year old son ( Tyler ) harvest his first buck. The following week, He had the opportunity to harvest a large doe and didn't because he said we have enough meat. To top all of that, We went to a farm not far from our house yesterday afternoon and climbed into a box stand and waited. About 30 minutes before dark 2 does and a NICE 8 pointer steped into the field. I used my range finder and ranged them at 170 yds. I told Tyler to let the buck get on out into the field before shooting him. Now, tyler has practiced with his .243 at 150 yds and shoots well at that distance. I told him to go ahead and bolt one in and rest on the rail. He did so but said that he could not get comfortable on the flimsy pipe around the top rail of the stand. After about 10 minutes of this, he got teary eyes and said "Dad, I want to kill him but I can't hold it steady on him" can we fix the stand and try him another day ? I promised him that I would fix it today and we could try again this weekend. He then looked at me with those bright blue eyes and said " Dad, you haven't gotten a deer yet and I killed that spike, why don't you shoot him. I picked up my .270 and settled the crosshairs on the deers shoulder, a perfect shot it would have been, but I couldn't do it. I told Tyler that it was an iffy shot for me too. We stayed in the stand for 30 more minutes and snuck out of the blind and went home. I fixed the stand before coming to the office this morning and put a home-made sandbag on the new rail and shelf. Man I hope He gets him this evening or tomorrow. I've got alot of respect for him for not just throwing a bullet the bucks way and missing him or even worse, wounding him. Sorry for the babling, I,m just proud of him and wanted to share the hunt with you guys, which are some of the best friends I have but have never met face to face. Good luck to all :!: :!:
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

Hi Ray

Your not babling and you should be very proud of your son for his level of maturity and responsibility & yourself for being a good teacher  ... Give yourself and your son a pat on the back for me...

Ray,

Man that was great..

It matters not whether that buck comes back, although I surely hope he does.

The young man is wise beyond his years. He learned a valuable lesson.

The "dad' is an OK guy too.

My congratulations on raising him right.

Enjoy your time afield with him..

I'll be waiting for the conclusion of this tale...

kudos to you both. Your son has great values, and based on this story he comes by them honestly.
