Darn winds n storms

Post by longbow joe »

We had about 5 major storms and some major winds this summer. I got so many orange tapes in the swamp....new routes old routes ..I'm just gonna come in tomorrow with bright green tapes and "fix" this mess..
A chainsaw can only fix a little bit some of the trees are widowmakers that l would have to cut to get a straight route in here it's like zig zag city.
Is anyone elses woods all screwed up this bad too.

One farm I hunt seems to physically change every season. I had two trees fall withing close earshot while in a stand last Monday. Regardless of where the trees fall the deer stay on the route, they just walk around or go on over it.

Funny about deer and their routes. I scouted a corn farm heavily last season. The farmer had left a couple corn rows empty between fields where he changed direction. For the past 8-10years it's been sod. The deer took to these rows like clockwork and continued to walk them for months after the corn was down and the snow piled high.

I have new dead falls every year and just let them lay there and rot. I was hunting a place with two crisscrossed over each other a few days back and was surprised to see a doe coming down the trail they fell over simply jump over the downed tress. I guess she was to lazy to walk around them.

I've had two major hurricanes come through where I hunt above Alexandria, La. Just came back from taking my grandson on a youth hunt. My little honey hole has been destroyed. So many trees down that I can't get to it . Most have been blown over, roots and all. Some trees that you can't get your arms around have been broken off a foot off the ground. Couldn't drive around much due to trees blocking the roads but must of the woods I could get to looked ok. Still saw deer though. I'll have to find another way to sneak into my honey hole . Never seen so many trees down in one little area.
