Vixen with Matrix Limbs possible?

Post by tomcat »

Would a Matrix front end or limbs bolt onto a Vixen2 mainframe or would it require modification?

The modification machining costs may be prohibitive.

All it takes is to elongate the rear bolt hole, and mill out the spot for the “ recoil lug” thingy. Ballpark 400fps. You can do the machining for the lug yourself. I used a dremel to get close and a new file to finish up. You can use marks-a lot for dykem . Go slow snd be patient it’s an easy job.
Use Matrix riser snd limbs, on Vixen II rail

Then check, then cut a bit more, then check.... when it goes in, quit!

Norm, then you can get a bulldog trigger likage, then you can take a Gen. 1 Micro stock and make it a bulldog stock. ( the stock is a one time deal, never do that again, just too hard headed to quit)

I think I’m going to trade my 308 for a Matrix and talk to my friend who is a CNC machinist into modding the Vixen rail for me..

Yes, you can mount Matrix limbs on a Vixen, although in order to do so without modifying the rail you will want to start with a Micro riser that only has the single through hole. The next step is to remove the two positioning nubs on the Micro riser then mark and then drill and tap the two new through holes using the same hole spacing as the original Vixen riser. You will then have a riser with three through holes, but it will now mount to the Vixen rail with the same two bolts as the original Vixen riser.

With the rail length of the Vixen and the angled back Micro riser you would probably be just a little under 400 fps. I built a very similar bow but used the target point blanc bow that has an even shorter rail than the Vixen and had it up at Boofest a couple of years ago. The hole spacing on the Matrix riser is just a bit different than that of the Exo series bows which is why you have to modify the rail if you want it to fit directly. I wanted to keep my rail as is and modify the riser to allow for using Matrix limbs. I can go back to the target bow limbs and riser that way with just using the two mounting bolts. Below is a comparison of a Micro riser, Exo Series riser, and a Matrix riser. The hole spacing on the Exo riser is roughly .500" for the middle of the first hole and 2.500" for the middle of the second hole as measured starting where the riser and foot stirrup come together. The Matrix riser is around .500" for the center of the first hole and 2.400" for the middle of the second hole. If you really wanted to use a Matrix riser you could likely remove the rectangular nub as it only is sticking up about .050" or so and open up the back hole location on the rail.

I’d most likely go the route of modding the Vixen rail. I’m sure even with an elongated hole it will still be square because of the side ribs and the square riser against true square rail joint. The bolt holes on the Exo series rails were/are already generous and I believe not the part that determines the riser assembly to be perfectly perpendicular...the “ribs” and joint seem to be the important part.

I ended up just putting a Vixen 2 stock(drill and tap a couple holes) on a Matrix 380 I just traded for. It feels balanced but I will have to rely upon the crank as it's simply too much for me in my condition nowadays..
Looking forward to testing out this Hybrid as I've never owned a Matrix series..
