:eusa-dance: Well I was able to get a nice doe Nov.16 th. :eusa-dance:
I know I'm late bragging but i'm old and slow :?
I was able to get in my tripod stand fairly easy at daylight thirty,
was sitting there setting up my coffee and cookies and looked up to see an old doe coming straight at me
slowly got my old mod.97 Winchester 12 ga. smooth bore up and waited,
she got within 30+ yds and gave me a shot I aimed the little bead sight on the point of her right shoulder and
pulled the hammer back and squeezed off a shot, she dropped like a rock,
no tracking, Dead on site !!! made it easy on this old man,
gonna enjoy the meat for sure, SO" what I decided to do is sell my 4 ladder stands and hunt out of the tripod
stand for as long as I can get up in it,,, Got Dec. 4th to 6th. for antlerless season,
hopefully I can get another doe for the freezer

Dave :D

Congratulations on the hunt!
An Old Model 1897 Winchester pump!! Wow! Talk about an "antique"!! Those things saw a lot of action in WW1.
Dave I'm glad that it worked out for you! I wish you success in your next hunt.
And whatever you do, don't forget the coffee and cookies!!

That story put a smile on my face. I may be wrong, but I think the model 97 is a John Browning developed gun and is pretty much a model 12 with a hammer. It's hard to beat a tripod stand. I have two ladder stands and a tripod and I hunt from the tripod too often because it's so comfortable and functional. You can swivel to look and shoot in any direction.

Congratulations and good luck this weekend! Be sure you're not shooting a spike buck (a friend made that mistake once - it's not hard to do).

yes, they had their day and this one lives on. :eusa-clap:
I can't find anything more comfortable than a tripod, I think I will buy another one if I can get around next year.
the hard part is putting them up all by yourself, but I get er done with ropes and my old 1942 9n ford tractor
it is easy to make the mistake so I look for them old roman nose does.

Slugs, it,s a smooth bore modified barrel bead sight
not the most accurate gun on the planet but it
gets the job done, that old gun could tell a lot of stories. :(
but it won't
