Looking for some ideas for a knife sharpener to take to the woods with me. Something simple and quick to use. Any ideas?

I was sold on this earlier this year. It's the best I've ever used. Not something you would carry with you. But it pretty much lives in my truck.Robinsons Rebel wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 5:50 pmLooking for some ideas for a knife sharpener to take to the woods with me. Something simple and quick to use. This works great for me, and I keep one in my pack. I have seen them cheaper than this as well.

Re: knife sharpener
I agree with Chris and if you really need to remove some steel or reshape a blade in short order purchase the diamond rods as well to complete the set.janesy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 6:15 pmI was sold on this earlier this year. If you can keep a blade straight, you can use a Sharpmaker. But if I need to change angles of the edge and or the back bevel, I use a Gatco

I bought one of these

Super simple and keeps a sharp knife sharp. I even use it to touch up broadheads after they go through a deer

Re: knife sharpener
The most important thing about our knives is to keep them from getting dull so touching up an edge is so important while using the knife. I use one of these. I never use a carbide sharpener on anything I care about.

Used to be a die hard stone n crock stick person until l discovered the outdoor edge exchange a blade knife.
I simply pop the blade out ...insert knife body in dishwasher if "gutty" and then pop a new razor sharp blade in.
I love traditional knives but l shot 10 whitetails this season .. .l simply don't have the time to sharpen my knife after every one..thats hours of time to get the kinda edge lm looking for now l got a pack of 10 razor sharp blades in a pack.
I save the good knifes for other things but l find myself using the exchange a blade on more and more these days.
I use a razor knife all day at work why not during hunting.

I switched to Havalon knives years ago. All my expensive custom knives collect dust now...

Re: knife sharpener
I just bought a Smith's Diamond Sharpening Block. It is 6 inches x 2 inches by .75 inches. Course on one side and fine on the other with two strop strips on the skinny sides. It stores inside a plastic sleeve that also becomes and extension handle. I really got it for fish hooks and broadhead but I used it on a couple of knives too and it works good. Easy to carry in a pocket or backpack. It was like $11 at Wal Mart.
Re: knife sharpener
Sounds like you are looking for a pocket sized touch up sharpener to carry with you instead of the total sharpening systems people are showing you. There are a lot out there just Google pocket kinfe sharpener and it will show a lot. The one Boo shored above works well as does several others. Here is an example:

Re: knife sharpener
For a compact quick touch up knife sharpener, the Smith's DCS4 works pretty well.
Re: knife sharpener
I have a folding diamond impregnated steel with its own nylon belt case that I bought at Bass Pro. It works well, but I mostly use it on fishing trips.. The thing that dulls knives the quickest is cutting against hard bones. The last few years, I have been carrying a Swiss Army Knife with a 3 1/2" blade and a saw blade of the same length. I keep the knife blade razor sharp with a water stone and use it to cut muscle and soft tissue. When I need to cut ribs or pelvic bones I use the saw. The knife blade is still razor sharp when I'm finished.
