OT - 2 Good-EASY Recipes

Post by nchunterkw »

I have started giving these recipes to people when I give them a deer roast. Too many people have no idea how to cook venison and these seem to never fail to please, and are super easy crock pot recipes

Recipe #1
In a crock pot add:
  • 3lb - 4lb deer roast
    2 apples - quartered
    1 white onion - quartered
clove or 2 of garlic, smashed up
    salt and black pepper
    DO NOT ADD EXTRA WATER
close the crock pot and cook on hi for 6 - 8 hours. The apples will disintegrate. Take the roast out and remove the apples skins and onion. Add a little corn starch and water to make an apple gravy out of what is left in the crock pot.

Recipe #2 (this one works with beef, bear, vension)
In a crock pot add:
  • 3lb - 4lb roast
1 packet of dry ranch seasoning
1 packet of dry au jus seasoning
1 stick of butter (or a half if you are being more heart healthy)
1 jar of drained pepperoncinis or 1/2 jar of jalapenos (I like jalapeno with venison, pepperoncini with beef)
    DO NOT ADD EXTRA WATER
cook on high for 6 - 8 hrs until tender.

Nice Keith, and thank you.

My tip is to use the newer Instant Pot that does the same in 45 min or less (and using less hydro) rather than a 6 to 8 hour wait.

Be interesting to see how tender it would come out. Do you think the apples would still cook down to nothing in that time?

Sounds great, I like the beef sandwich recipe and have been using that for several years. Always a big hit!

Pork or beef roast 45-60min is fall apart tender. The electric pressure cooker was a heck of an idea and works fabulous. Hard to beat a long slow cook on a crock, but we are too afraid to leave it on when not home. Heard of a few houses burning when they shorted out, so now we cant bring ourselves to risk it.
