Re: Opening Day...
OK... the turkey bird has been cleaned and is tucked away nicely in the freezer...
Got in the blind around 7:30 this morning... started calling a little once the crows got going... and nothing. My blind over looks a clover mix food plot and I know the birds like to hang out in there... saw plenty of longbeards during deer season... so I had made up my mind to stay until 12:00 or so. Around 10:00 I picked up my sweet little slate call and gave a soft yelp... WHAM-O... he cut me off from behind the blind... and I mean CLOSE!! I shut up calling, readied the Ibex, and waited... but... nothing. Picked up my Primos Spring Hen (you need one of these by the way)... gave a couple of soft purrs... he nails it again... but... NOTHING. At this point I'm thinking he's not the dominant bird and he's scared to come in... well crap!! For the next twenty minutes it's dead silence... UNTIL two big birds and four jakes come into the food plot about 100 yards away... HERE WE GO! They would walk a while and strut a while, but most importantly, headed my way... wait... wait... safety off...wait... I had already decided on a 20 yard or less shot... until they started veering off at 30 yards... 31... 32... 33... I put the 30 yard triangle on the top of the wing butt and hit the trigger. The bird made it five steps and crashed... it was over that quick. I thanked God for the beautiful morning and for my first archery turkey.
The Rocket Meat Seeker busted through the heavy breast bone with no damage!
Nice two inch exit hole!

Ok first of all, best thread opening post yet! That "intro" made me laugh.
Great bird and a great story to go along with it. Congrats on your first bow-bird

Re: Opening Day...
Congrats on a nice Tom!
I wish our Wisconsin 1st turkey season wasn't still a month away. Wisconsin has the 6 different seasons, & the first one doesn't start until April 21st. I wish they were all pushed up about 2 weeks. Some silly legislator or bureaucrat felt it was important the 6th season falls on Memorial weekend a couple years ago, which I find sort of stupid. Not that I have an opinion on the matter!
I've never shot a turkey with archery equipment, but your story is inspiring! Thanks for sharing it!

Re: Opening Day...
Nice turkey! Congratulations! I'm still trying to seal the deal with archery equipment. One of these days a bird will mess up. One of these days.
