Any CAN-US Border News Re: Hunting?

Post by nchunterkw »

Any of you guys Up North got any insider intel on my chances of making to my Ontario Bear hunt this spring? It's the first week of June.
From what I can read it doesn't look so good.

Unfortunately it won't be open for the spring bear hunt.

No one except for the top government officials know when it will reopen and they are saying its closed indefinitely... :(

When it does you will need proof of vaccination to cross over.

I feel your pain. We have a great spot to deer hunt in Michigan and it's a no go for us too..

I have a guaranteed "door opener" for you, nchunterkw.

Gather up 60,000,000 shots of Pfizer vaccine and drive it to the border. We'll carry you on our shoulders from the border all the rest of the way to bear camp.

Extremely doubtful.
Last year the provinces of Alberta & BC would sell you the opportunity to Hunter Host a Buddy from the neighboring Province.
But, they had NO intention of issuing them whatsoever.
Instead they blamed the Covid for not issuing them, and then refused reimbursement.
Money grab IMHO.
Makes us all nervous regarding what might happen this coming fall...

And if that's how they're dealing with it between provinces, I can't see a lot of hope for International crossings to hunt.

Additionally my Outfitter Buddy in Alberta was forced to cough up over $ 20 K US for his tags and concessions.
Then to be told that NO International travelers would be allowed to come hunt whatsoever.
Had to eat that expense.
A handful of his colleagues simply folded up their tents as a consequence.

Wish it weren't so.
Haven't been able to wander down to see Pa, my Brother & Sister since Mom passed.
And that REALLY Burns...

Another year of no fishing and moose hunting for Yankees? Many outfitters barely survived one year lost revenue.

Two years? Most will go under.

And a vaccine mandate? Nuts!

Hunting and fishing should be improving for you Canadians. Two years with substantially reduced pressure should improve opportunities. I'm looking forward to going back to Pipestone lake in Ontario when this is over when the walleyes and smallmouths should be bigger and more numerous.

I hope everyone who wants one will be able to get a vaccination soon.
