Acorns

Post by papabear1 »

Gonna be a bountifull year for all the creatures in the woods,
had a pretty good storm here in the Ozarks last wk.
I have about 25 white, and red oaks around my yard,
and 25 acres of hardwoods, and when I cleaned up all
the clusters of leaves and branches I noticed a lot
of pee sized acorns/ akerns on them so ,
I would say gonna be some fat deer, turkeys, and squirrels
i'm probably gonna be fat too.

One of my favorite ladder stands is attached to a White Oak!! Deer love them big fat acorns!!!

The deer on our farm like to eat the corn kernels and soybean plants in all of the crop fields in the area. When there is a big acorn crop, we see fewer deer in the fields in the early season because they love to eat acorns (one of their natural foods). It has an impact on where I hunt. I'm glad they have plenty of food to prepare them for the winter.

Grouse you are exactly correct!! I've seen deer walk past feeders of all kinds to get to an Oak that is dropping acorns!! In the years we have a huge acorn crop here in Texas, you can't make a deer go to a corn or protien feeder for love nor money!!
I have a place that has two huge wild persimmon trees on it. When they start to drop, be close by, the deer will run you over to get to them!! :D
Nature has a way of taking care of itself, if we just get out of the way!!
