NJ bear season

Post by Hillcountry »

NJ bear season cancelled…
No bear season in 2021 even though according to a NJ resident (on another forum) says they are absolutely, overrun with them. That’s what you get with a liberal governor and an indifferent director. Politics…

Bummer, but these people get elected by people that don’t have any interest in hunting, or anything that much less than half of the population does . I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I live right across the bridge from NJ in Pennsylvania and regularly go back and forth for work play and the beach.
Our gun laws here and there are night and day.
We can carry here with a easily obtained permit as long as you are a good boy or girl.Over in jersey it's almost impossible to carry.
Over here l can go in Walmart and buy ammo without question over in jersey l can't buy a bb gun.
This all falls on our elections and the idiots in charge its a constant Battle with the anti hunters and unreasonable, unrealistic .
It's a shame because some of the county's such as Hunterdon literally have some of the best quality deer on the east coast.
I have shot many 140 class deer there over the years at a friend's property but it's very hard to secure permission at a lot of places.
Everyone is complaining about the nuisance bears and coyotes but ask for permission to get rid of them and you hear 100 excuses it's sad.
No reason why they can't have a regular bear season. Some giant bears 600 lbs +++ in the state also
Nj has some state forest where there is a lot of room to hunt especially for crossbow or any kind of archery. .

I know dan our state has a rich hunting heritage and even new jersey has some decent pheasant stocking programs and good fish stocking....but it all can be defined as de funded with the stroke of a pen if people start loosing interest in our outdoor lifestyle.

.....thank the Good Lord I am now a NY State hunter....no longer do I have to deal with King Phillip, the archaic hunting laws in The People's Republic of New Jersey.....I will sorely miss:

1. Buying 2 licenses each year- even though the hunting season straddles 2 years NJ in its infinite wisdom requires you to buy a new license in January,

2. Buying Permits for each zone you hunt in,

3. Buying Buck tags as your hunting license is only for does during permit season,

4. Extended season permits,

5. Pheasant stamps ......

NOT!

Is the license not good for a full year from Jan. 1 to Dec 31 each year? If yes then you should only have to buy 1 license per year. As a retired Revenue Agent I would think that a CPA could figure that one out. :D

....as a typical revenue agent, you have missed the point (as I have found with many IRS agents during my career).....my point is that NOT that a license is for the calendar year and that you buy one license for a calendar year.....it's that you must buy two licenses to hunt the entire hunting season. I know of no other states where that is the case. I would think that a retired Revenue Agent you could have figured that out. :eusa-think:

Please explain which two licenses you are having to buy. I think you are stating that you are buying for a calendar year starting on date of purchase and they run out so you are having to buy another. That happens here also as we buy on a calendar year also IF you buy yearly. I bought a Lifetime license.

This made me think have to buy at the first of the year so they would be good Jan thru Dec. Buying 2 licenses each year- even though the hunting season straddles 2 years NJ in its infinite wisdom requires you to buy a new license in January

From the NJ hunting website...

"New Jersey licenses are for the calendar year and expire on December 31 regardless of when purchased (see Youth Licenses for exception). Deer permits are valid into the following year if a season extends into it, but the current year's license is required. Waterfowl Stamps and Rifle Permits only are valid for the July 1 - June 30 period."

Looks like this round goes to the revenue-er

I read it like Anthony is suggesting. You buy one license for the calender year. But you have to buy the next year mid season in order to complete the season. No?

If one tag is good for 2021, but the season crosses into 2022, you'll have to buy a license mid season. He's not complaining about the cost, just the hassle of having to do it during mid season.
