Great story with a happy ending! I really enjoy forum members hunting stories and I look forward to reading many more of them now that hunting seasons are finally starting.

Your story reminded me of something I did a long time ago. I had a late Friday night softball game during spring turkey season and after the game, I went home, grabbed a few things, and drove up to our farm to get a few hours sleep before getting up to hunt. I got up, got dressed and stepped outside to listen and heard a gobbler gobbling early and nearby. Excitedly, I went back in and grabbed my gun and some shells and discovered that I had brought a 20 ga. shotgun instead o the 12 ga. I intended to take. I had no 20 ga. shells with me. I did have some fishing equipment, so I went fishing, and caught a limit of crappie - which saved the day.
