Hammered in Jersey by EHD

Post by GGC »

Farmers in zone 17, NJ, are losing a bunch of deer. In less than a square mile adjacent farms and nurseries have counted over 100 dead deer.
Probably more if you scour the wooded areas. All due to EHD and the majority of the state is reporting dead deer.
There are also reports of EHD in NY, from Albany south to Westchester County just north of NYC.
Anthony if you find anymore on your place or others you are likely affected also.
My cameras have a total of two deer for the three nurseries, not good at all.
Gonna be awhile for numbers to recover.
Having way too many deer for years something had to give.

Sorry to hear this also.
I still hunt in zone 11, l think it's got some of the best deer hunting on the east coast if you can find a way in.
I got many 140 class and up deer there over the years.
NJ wildlife mgt and fish and game are not what they used to be for sure.

We had it here 2 years ago and heard the same thing from our area Biologists. It is spread by Midges (noseeums). The herd bounced right back after a year.

our fish and game have a monthly meeting but its during the work week hours and computer online only.i think you can speak during the public comments portion but.. you need to buy software to attend the meeting  . no wonder why it was easy for them to just ban the Twinstrike. after all they say that crossbow single handed took away the spirit of the archery season. :eh: but inline muzzleloaders with long range rifle precision.3 round auto loaders and harvesting multiple deer in some zones no problem.

Central NJ hit hard as well. Still seeing deer but not as many as last year. Most adaptable species in North America and will bounce right back

Here on Vancouver Island it is Adenovirus hemorrhagic disease (AHD) that is really knocking the Blacktails down hard.
And they suspect it may well be transferable to our Roosevelt Elk.

Not seeing nearly the number we usually do.
A local farmer has found 7 or 8 right in his home yard.

Spooky! :wtf:
