No more BD330 ??

Post by Owl Creek »

I was surprised to see they took the 330 out of the line up.

I guess I wont be selling my Bulldogs anytime soon, going to be hard to part with them now.
Maybe I should buy some extra limbs for safe keeping before long.

If you love it, I would. I have purchased three old long limbers in the 200# models, with the crazy economic climate these days, you just never know what you need to have on hand. Got me a nice stock of arrows too!
Outside of the forum, I know four people that hunt with Excalibur models, and I know a lot of folks that like the wheeled models, which is the majority now with these narrow contraptions out there. :eusa-popcorn:

I have had a couple wheel X bows. But I love the simplicity of the Excalibur. And they just look so good.

I like mine easy to de-cock more than anything these days, the accuracy, etc. is expected. I'm fixing up my antiques, they'll run forever!

Still my favorite.

Order some limbs and keep it for life. The BD330 is a true life time bow

If my BD400 ever becomes problematic, which I don't think it ever will... I'll turn it into a BD330'ish some day.

I would definitely say if you intend to shoot your BD330 a lot and a long time buying an extra set of limbs or two would be a very good idea.

If you buy extra limbs take the limbs from the 440. They give you 20fps more speed and should be bulletproof on the BD330. The only thing you have to replace are the tubes/spacer (don't know it in english), they are a little bit longer from the BD440
I have a BD330 with these limbs and my Bulldog brings a 411grain arrow to 328fps.

Any idea how much speed increase could be expected with these thicker limbs on a BD400?
Thanks and take care

Corey, FWIW the listed power stroke on the BD400 and the BD440 are the same...and the replacement rail Mike from Excal sent me for my 400 was black, because that was all they had. They never made a black BD400, but they do make a black 440....hmmm......So unless there is a riser angle difference, it might be just the limbs? Hopefully someone more informed can chime in.

I have these limbs on my bows with the wooden stock too. These are a Matrix 330 and a Matrix 355. With a flemish string the bows are 12-15fps faster.
So i guess you should get ~410-420fps out of a 400.
My dealer had offered the BD400 and also described that they installed the limbs of the 420/440 and that the crossbow can achieve up to 415fps.

I remember asking my local Excalibur dealer about the BD330. He never heard of it and called Excslibur to order one. Excalibur had no record of making this bow. Now that's a rare bow!!! Lol

My BD400 is a mutt that was once a BD360. I purchased a BD400 rail and a Suppressor stock all in black. Added a Flemish string, Optimizer, Tact 100 scope, 3d printed cheek rest, and an ACP trigger. I covered the cheek rest in some Black marine vinyl that I re-cover ATV seats with. It's a slick lookin sweet shootin rig. I haven't hunted with it yet but it may see some use this deer season. The longer draw puts my back in a bad position towards the end of the draw and it also doesn't fit well in my small blinds or the orchard shack. I thought with the speed and Optimizer it would be a great setup for hunting out of a treestand. I'm seriously thinking about calling the fine folks at Excalibur and getting a set of these updated limbs. I haven't bought much new gear lately and I got a few bucks burning a hole in my pocket!
Take care everyone
