Is the rut on in your neck of the woods?

Post by Riflemanz »

How is the rut going in your area? I haven't seen any rutting yet here in SE WI!.
I might go out tomorrow morning with my brother to check for any action.

I saw two scrapes when I hunted last weekend and there are lots of rubs around. The only buck I saw was pretty small and didn't show any rutting characteristics. With several frosts and freezes in this week's forecast, I think we're getting close.

I have been following the Deer Rut calendar put out by "Deer and Deer Hunting" Magazine for the last 13 years. A good magazine I might add.

Here is the link for the 2021 forecast. Copy/paste.

Bucks have been tending does here in my part of Missouri for about a week now,
I don't hunt afternoons anymore so I have been sitting on my front porch watching the
bucks chase doe's and has been a show for sure, seen some riubs but not any scrapes yet,
seen one buck do a licking branch last night,

Should be starting here in Central New Hampshire! One of my scrapes was worked last week so they’re looking! Mid November is magic time with most daytime movement.
Just have to be in the stand!

Just starting on Vancouver Island...

I wish I was able to be in the woods right now. I find the beginning of the rut to be the best time to hunt. I enjoy rattling, and calling in deer, and of course watching the woods explode with deer sign. This last week of cooler temps here should get things going pretty quickly around here.

Based on my cellular trail cameras, I haven't captured movement increasing much yet. I did notice one new buck yesterday on cam, but it should pick up soon. While I was hunting yesterday the one doe that I did see was chased over the ridge by a buck with his nose down behind her.

I haven't seen a lot of buck sign, but they are rubbing some. I'm saving my last buck tag for whatever made this one.

Just starting here...maybe. I saw a few bucks nose down, but no real chasing yet. Sat last night and had 5 does in a cut grass area but nobody coming to check them. But I did see 2 new scrapes in the area that weren't there last Friday

I watched a good buck chasing a does last night in circles for 20 mins while sitting in my stand over a bean field without a bow(I'm tagged out) while my youngest sat 100 yds away hoping they would come to him. He must have ADHD because he couldn't make up which one to chase in circles next...lol
