New member intro...
Hi all, I'm a long time deer hunter (waterfowl, turkey, upland hunter too), but I took the jump to crossbows this fall and I'm happy I did. I wanted a reliable bow and that lead me to Excalibur and looking at the lineup I chose and bought a Bulldog 440.
Thanks to everyone who contributes here! I read a bunch on this forum when researching.
I got the bow set up just before the rut and hunted with the bow 100% stock. I screwed some 100 grain broadheads on the proflight arrows that came with the bow. I was pleased since the accuracy was outstanding, although as expected, the bow was not exactly fun to shoot with all the vibration and shock.
First crossbow deer, it was about the worst drag out conditions I've experienced - a fall thunderstorm with plenty of rain and lightning. Was a nice 4.5 year old buck that weighed 180 pounds dressed, which is a big deer around here.
Nice wide deer with the 18" bolt. Look at the twist in his face, he looks to have been hit by a car at some point.
Now that the season is over, I'm working on getting things sorted out for the long term. I have some Zombie Slayers in hand, I'm working on getting some Flemish strings for it and I may change out the scope since it drifted several times during the season. I'd like the crossbow to be elk ready, but mainly I'll be hunting deer.

Welcome to the forum and Great Buck! Not a bad way to start your crossbow history!
The best way to reduce vibration and shock at the shot is to bump up the arrow weight, and putting that added weight in the front of the arrow will help FOC which generally helps accuracy. Zombies are a good choice IMO and I'd throw the 110gr brass inserts in them. Add a Lumenok, blazers and a 150gr (or heavier) point and you should be ready for anything in North America and some stuff in Africa

x2. And the heavier arrow also helps to tame the sound a little as well.nchunterkw wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 12:22 pmThe best way to reduce vibration and shock at the shot is to bump up the arrow weight, and putting that added weight in the front of the arrow will help FOC which generally helps accuracy. Thanks all, I appreciate the welcome.
I'm definitely looking to add a bit of weight to the arrows along with the Flemish string.
