Hog hunting in Florida

Post by Carnivorous »

Will down in Florida end of this month with time to kill (a hog). :)

Looking for recommendations for a hog hunting outfitter in Central Florida...

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers!

I have hunted at Triple M Outfitters a few times. Good guys and a fun time. Can shoot them from the swamp buggy or sometimes get down and have them kind of drive them by. $250 for the first hog and $150 per hog after. Fun to shoot with an AR or something, but crossbow works too.

They are in Palm Bay

This guy charged me and I shot him in the head at about 14 feet.

Shot the other one here on a spot and stalk at 20 yds

Nice pair you harvested Keith. I bet the ticker was going good when that bore was charging in!

Tampa is pretty much due west of Palm Bay. Looks like a 3hr drive maybe?

That must have been a “puckering moment” when you got charged.

How the heck do you suppose he found out that you are an engineer?

Pigs are smart! Smarter than dogs! Haha

I was on the ground with my buddy who was backing me up with his AR. I had my 45 lying on my pack in easy reach. We were "hiding" beside a clumpof palmettos and a small tree. I saw this guys and 4 others coming towards us along a fence. Since they were mostly black I turned on my scope so the reticle would show up really well. When he saw us he started right at us. I kept waiting for him to turn off and give me some kind of broadside shot but he just kept coming, grunting with his head down. I said to my buddy "Stay down"...he said "F THAT!!" and stood up. At that point he was close and at about 14feet I popped him right in the head. You can see the entry in the pics if you zoom in. Arrow was a 16" Zombie with a 110gr brass insert and a 150gr Slick Trick. So around 425grains. The BH lodged in the back of his skull and the arrow broke off. I have the skull mount with about 1/4" of arrow sticking out. It's pretty cool. The second pig was at 20 yards with the same setup but quartering away. I hit really tight behind the shoulder and into the offside leg. No passthrough but a dead pig at about 50 yards. This hunt got me thinking about upping my arrow weights.

In retospect...me and my buddy are pretty lucky my arrow didn't just bounce off his skull. I had ultimate confidence in my gear and that thought never entered my mind at the time. But now I know better.

Was a great hunt all around. We all shot the number of pigs we wanted. That is not an issue down there.
