Laser ranging bow sights

Post by Hi5 »

I live in a small community which has very limited archery supplies conveniently available. That means when I hear about laser, ranging bowsights, nobody has them in stock.

So, as intriguing as the Garmin X1i model sounds, there is no chance for any “hands on” examination. Pictures on paper with a written description just don’t cut it. Neither does a video screen with some enthusiastic reviewer assuring the world that the product is truly wonderful.

If I’m going to short change my kids on part of their inheritance, I want it to be only in a good cause. It’s true that I already put my kids through college, but still, the darned thing better work, and work well.

So, my question to readers at large, does anyone have one? Or, do they know someone who does? What’s the scoop on this unit? Does it perform as advertised? In theory, it sounds like an amazing device.

Is that model compatible with crossbows?

Wondering...

+Are there any videos available through Garmin, or YouTube?

That is the crossbow model It has a variety of reticles in various Color’s. The sighting in process establishes what your arrow speed is and thereafter a single aim point is shown where the arrow should strike, out to 80 yards. Automatically.

Garmin has videos. There are a few reviews. It’s on YouTube.

I have to admit I am more than a little bit interested. They apparently run somewhat over $2,000.00 Canadian. Apparently they have problems operating in severe cold. They have a one year warranty. None of this will kill my interest if I get some assurance that it actually will perform as claimed.

I've handled both the Garmin x1i and the Burris Oracle X.

I preferred the Burris in every way.

Well, you are a long ways ahead of me. I haven’t even touched either one!

It sounds as though you didn’t get a chance to test them on a bow. What brings you to your conclusion?? Thanks for your input.

Nice range finder scopes at a premium cost but I don't care much about adding a 2 lb brick to my crossbow.

Much rather use the 1.5 oz Reflex sights on my crossbows currently.

I handled each of them mounted on various crossbows. Got to test the ranging function and reticle drop of each one. Basically everything except fire shots. The weight and size weren't as noticeable as I thought they would be, but that could be because I am already used to my heavier-than-factory scopes (Hawke and Vortex).

I like the variable power of the Burris over the fixed power of the Garmin. Burris also has built-in reticles and holdover lines in case of electronic failure. Garmin does not. Burris is also half the price and has forever warranty. Garmin has a limited warranty.

Thanks, wheelsquad.
Norm, your point about weight and bulk is valid. However, I have vision issues which compel me to look for any optical benefit I can get.

All of that takes me right out of the picture.
Thanks anyway...

I have yet to fork out the $$ for one of these. But I do have trouble ranging deer for the shot in certain situations. Currently setting up a Leupold Vendetta on my micro to see if that is a good enough solution to keep me from spending the $$ on the Oracle X.

I have the Burris Oracle on my 400 Assassin. Great unit, guaranteed for life by Burris. I spoke to one person that had both the Oracle and the Garmin. He said buy the Oracle for sure - better unit. He said the warranty was much better with Oracle and that the Garmin unit was too technical- with a lot of unneeded data etc. Although the Garmin is the smallest of the two the weight is very close. The Oracle is a solid unit - easy to use. In Ontario Easthill Sporting goods has the Oracle in stock $1200.00 they just got a good shipment of them in.

I just noticed some Burris Oracle Blems on eBay. $799. Any of y'all fixing to buy, might save a buck. And still has Burris Forever Warranty.
