Re: Testing : Tooth of the Arrow Broadheads
Some times when you put a fixed blade head on you can have perfect arrows and you will still hit slightly to one side caused buy one limb being slightly stronger than the other or riser alignment to the rail.nchunterkw wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 2:42 pmTrue true...but if you can get them aligned then you KNOW you have perfect arrow flight.gerald strine wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 12:03 pmAnother idea is to sight in at 40 yards with the broad heads and who cares about the field points .
The fixed blades make it show up acting as wings but it normally is not a real factor hunting as you can still hit the bottom of a pop can at 40 yards and I sight in with broadheads.
I personally have not shot a field tip in a few years, the last time was at a 3d course.
I practice with what I hunt with 90 percent of the time so my field points pretty much stay in the basement and I have dedicated practice fixed heads.
Hunt eat sleep repeat.

Re: Testing : Tooth of the Arrow Broadheads
It did. I checked all of my arrows, ripped the fletching off and started over. The results speak for themselves. These shots were at 40y. The hit in the middle was a field point. My target is a 2" circle with a 3/4" dot in the middle.nchunterkw wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 9:29 amI was gonna ask if you tried each vane in the rail (trying out different spine locations). That might let them drop right in with the FP. With both flying low left I'd say spine indexing might fix ya
Now that my arrow issue is sorted out, I'm quite impressed at the accuracy of the TOTA broadheads. I'll have a TOTA or two in my quiver for sure this season.

Indeed!nchunterkw wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 10:42 amMan......you gotta tune that FP to fly with your broadhead!!
Today I set out to prove yesterday wasn't a fluke and I didn't luck into putting the right head on just the right arrow. Yesterdays test was a single arrow shooting a single head. I actually tested eight heads. The post was just the 4-blade models.
This time I screwed the whole pack on and gave them a ride. Shots were at 40y from a rest with my Micro 380. Calm to no wind, humid and hot as Hades. The shots around the outside of the paper are the broadheads. The center shot was a field point for reference fired last into each group.
I'll certainly fine tune things, but at this point its looking like a TOTA XL will be drawing first blood this coming season, at least from my Micro 380. If they turn out to be durable enough to stand up to the rocky soil around here, any chance they'll have a Labor Day sale?

Nice shooting.
What do you think of the sharpness after flinging them into foam?
Do you have the TOTA sharpener?
I know a guy who uses vegetable oil on his TOTA sharpener. Good guy too.
EDIT: which spine tester did you purchase recently?

So I guess you don't need to shoot a mechanical to have good accuracy at high arrow speeds.

Re: Testing : Tooth of the Arrow Broadheads
I purchased two packs each of the solid heads, love them so far, but have not yet settled on arrows & weight yet either. Reading everything about these heads, and I'm excited to try to harvest a doe in October with these.

The same guy introduced me to frozen butter tarts!! Lol
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

Re: Testing : Tooth of the Arrow Broadheads
Their still reasonably sharp after a few shots into foam. I have one of the TOTA sharpeners on order and want to see if I can get them a tad sharper than new.
I picked up the Spine Tester Pro from Coop's Bowsmith. I had a digital dial indicator laying around and installed that on it. I was a bit surprised to see where the spine was on some of my arrows. It was also a bit surprising to see how straight some of the shafts weren't. I find myself using it for multiple functions and its easy to see how it can make better shooting arrows.
