Spring crossbow hunt

Post by XB I GO »

My Dad took my brother to San Marcos area for free range exotics. There are Axis and Blackbuck in the area. I tried to do the right thing and go support my friends on the school soccer team for the State Championship game. It’s the first time the team even made the playoffs. I’ve always wanted a blackbuck so this was tough.

My Dad told me they put up a blind on a water hole. A big herd of blackbucks walked across the property a few hundred yards away. Suddenly my brother says “How about this one” when a lone male came up to the left. They didn’t make a lane to shoot that way. The buck came in but was never broadside and eventually started walking away. Just when they thought it was over my Dad looks up and there’s another, bigger male right in front of them. There was no time to rangefind or test the crossbow. My Dad whispered “right here”. My brother knew what to do. He pointed the M380 and sent a BEZS with a 150 grain Inner-Loc into the bullseye. The buck ran about 100 yards one way then turned and went another 100 yards a different way. They could see it the whole time, and it stopped short and did a back flip.

The bolt with the Luminock was fine but 2 blades broke off of the broadhead. There was a huge exit and no lungs could be found inside the animal. Here’s the Excalibur kid with his trophy.

Good shot!
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

Nice work!. Hunted blackbuck once about maybe 7 or 8 years ago. They are cagey wary animals for sure.

Texas... where the hunting season never ends!!
