China / seeds

Post by gerald strine »

Sorry this is off topic but I wanted to get the word out.
China is sending mystery seeds to the U.S. and its allies , this is not a good thing I am sure.

I hate to say this, but folks SHOULD have put in gardens years ago!! :eusa-deadhorse:

When we moved back to East Texas, the 1st thing I did was clear trees and then plant fruit trees. Peaches, plums. pears, apples and apricots. Then added 3 different varieties of Fig trees. Plus, a couple of Fuyu Japanese Persimmons. We also have strawberries, thornless blackberries and blueberries. And to round that out we added pomegranates 3 years ago.

Every year I plant several varieties of Tomatoes, several types of pepper plants, squash, cucumbers, zucchini, okra and cantaloupes. "The Boss" even grows her own cilantro and a few other herbs.

Before the first row was turned this year, I added 2 truck load of composted cow manure to the garden. Needless to say, the stuff in the garden is nice and green!!

Some of us are old enough to remember, that Grandma and Grandpa had a garden EVERY year. And they grew everything they thought they might want to eat! They were instilled with that mindset due to WWll.
Let's all pray we don't end up like that again!!

Pardon the pun, but that's "food" for thought!!   :eusa-doh:

The "mystery" seed thing has been going on for a long, long time. Anyone planting unknown seeds needs their head read  Can you imagine growing some giant hog weed in your backyard? But some people just can't help themselves :wtf:

AJ, we grow in excess of what we can eat, freeze and give away. What ever does not get eaten gets turned over (no no-till for me). Aside from vegetables, we grow nuts and apples. I am not sure why everyone does not grow a little something. We have a dairy farmer as a neighbor so fertilizers is not a problem getting. I wish we lived in a better hardiness zone, I'd be growing a whole lot more different fruit trees. As it is I'm waiting until our northern persimmons to produce.

It's very satisfying to grow food for yourself, family and friends. I've had a Honda mini tiller for many years, and I grow tomatoes and peppers here at my suburban home and also till for friends and neighbors to grow what they want. We pick lots of blackberries every summer up at our farm and buy eggs and produce from local farmers. When you add the wild game and fish that I bring in, we end up with a pretty healthy diet.

Regarding the "Chinese seeds", it doesn't appear to be anything diabolical. All of the seeds tested were of ordinary flowers, fruits and vegetables. It seems to be part of a "brushing" scam to get better placement on google and other search engines. We live in a crazy world.

So what's worse, so guy somewhere puts seeds in the mail as some kind of a world wide practical joke.

OR...

The guy who planted them, and fertilized them for weeks just to see what they were.
If the diabolical plan was to speed up the spread of some invasive plant, well chalk up up for the bad guys because that's exactly what they were hoping some dim wit would do. :eusa-doh: then, because he's super bright ... He goes on national TV and TELLS everyone he did it too. :wtf: :wtf:

Boo, I just imagine the growing season is a little short in your neck of the woods!! I like the big Fuyu persimmons! We also have a pair of "native" persimmons that produce like crazy every year.
I have about 6 Hickory Nut trees on the property. They a pain in the butt!! I planted a Hawthorne Tree 4 years ago. Still waiting to see what it does. Susan calls me "Johnny Appleseed". She says I can get anything to grow! Learned it all from my Grandma!

And speaking of Apples I wish we could grow Honey Crisp down here...too hot. I'm stuck with Gala and Red Delicious. Trust me, I'm NOT really complaining! :eusa-naughty:

On another note...I saw firewood for sale in Austin. $400 a cord!! Crazy!! I still got 2 cords left from this past winter!! I'd NEVER live in a big city again!! :eusa-naughty:

I have to agree with AJ01....everyone should have a garden going...

Fuel costs are crazy ($2 a litre diesel ) fertilizer prices thru the roof ( up 2 to 3 x from last year ) , some herbicide unavailable , others limited supply and doubled in price ...

The scary part is that my zg supply dealer told me we are in decent shape for this crop year , as the supply chain is reasonably full .. A lot of factors will put a strain on supply and drive prices up ..it's 2023 we are worried about .

This could put our food supply at risk .with the conflict in Ukraine a lot of the world food will not be produced.....No nitrogen fertilizer from there or Russia. Plus other factors could / will put a strain on supply .. (less fertilizer =less food produced per acre )

Mic and I grow a lot of our own food ...We will be doing more canning this year ..My 2 adult sons are taking after mom and dad and are planning on putting in large gardens this year ..

All I have to say about this that we have become a society of half the people are incredibly stupid, and OUR governments wouldn't have it any other way. It's not like any law will be exercised to stop it, or anything else. I'm almost convinced our Government sold us to China, change my mind!
