O/T #$%* That's Cold!

Post by Species8472 »

May 2022 dock launch. Had to move 2 of the 400 lb concrete anchors after the ice moved them 50+feet out of position. Than had to swim out to, dive down to and flip one of them over using a pry bar in the 40 F recently ice covered frigid water. Swam out wearing nothing but a pair of heavy work boots to help keep my feet on bottom when i was prying. My 50 something body is getting a little old for that chit. Thank the gods for whiskey.

First step was to reposition the 400 lb submerged anchors:

The 2000 lb paddle board. Paddled the two pieces about 1/4 mile from the winter shelter spot to the summer dock location:

Arrived

All done

Now that the dock is out the spring bear hunt is on deck

Edit to add a pic of what my forearms look like 24 hours after concrete wrestling on the bottom in 7 feet of frigid water:

Joe, your balls WERE a lot bigger than mine.
It's a biach twice a year with them docks, but worth it every time you use them. Good Luck with the bear hunting.

I've taken an unintentional long swim in sub-freezing temps in ice water. I couldn't imagine ever attempting it intentionally. Even 50 degree water hurts. I'm not sure balls have anything to do with that decision. Enough whiskey might make it seem reasonable.

So how do you enter 40 degree water on purpose? Just wading in would seem brutal. Cannonball?

Looks like you've got a nice place their for everything a lake has to offer.

No wading. Just jumped off platform into chest deep. Was a tough mental exercise to keep from hyper ventilating. Wasn't sure i was going to pull it off but persisted and managed - total time in the water was less than 3 minutes. Spent 20 minutes afterwards in the 75F sun naked warming up while i sipped my whiskey.

Joe that's a great looking dock you have there!
But I'm with Jeff...intentionally jumping into 40-degree water??? And at 50 plus! Holy Cow!! You're a better man than me!!

I'd have found me a couple of teenage boys, paid them a few bucks and supervised from a boat WHILE I sipped the whiskey!!

Congrats on a great place! Enjoy!!
