Using a crank harder then using cocking rope?

Post by vpsaline »

Can some crossbows be harder to cock with a crank then with a cocking rope? I've seen some people look very awkward when using a crank and it seems to use mostly arm strength which some people struggle with where as the cocking rope just uses legs and back muscles mainly which even out of shape people tend to be able to handle.

What do you think?

Cranks are not harder. They can be awkward to start with but better than busting a nut on the high poundage bow.

Well, the cranking is definately not harder, but the longer the bow the easier it is to use as the leverage to move the bow around makes it easier to handle over all.

My micro370 which came in at 29" was perfect nut height and when you were decocking it specifically with the crank it was without a doubt a two handed exercise. When you let off the first crank the bow wants to kick back into you, and depending on your height, that could be a real problem. Cocking it wasn't that big of a deal because by that point it's (hopefully) under your control

Where as a 440 would rest against your abdomen and not move around at all. With that said, even through the crank on say a 440 makes an otherwise uncockable bow for most people, cockable... It doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be easy. At the top you still needed to have the strength and dexterity to latch it in that last little bit. My 400Supressor commands full attention and a wrist strap to cock it safely. As many would agree, if anything goes wrong it's gonna go wrong real fast

Yup, everytime I cock the 400 I'm . Who knew the limbs could bend that far?

I'd love to see someone rope cock it, but I'd watch from a distance.

Just pick up any Ravin crossbow and it will be easy to crank if you can handle around 12 lbs of pressure. Then grab the string and attempt to pull it back a little by hand. No way in hell are you going to rope cock one of them more than once if you can even do that.
Cranks make cocking crossbows easy. I even use a crank when making brace height adjustments and changing strings on my Excals.
