View from my opening day stand...

Post by flinthead »

Archery season begins here in the lovely Palmetto Sate on August 15 in my neck of the woods... it will be hotter than two squirrels making love in a wool sock in the attic!! I put out a salt block and my camera a few weeks ago... thought y'all might want to take a look... pretty sure the first picture is a Chupacabra... Those bucks are some of my tomorrows trophies that may wind up with a Swhacker hole!!

Nice pictures. It seems you have a variety of game near your stand.

I only left one camera out all year and put up my three others two weeks ago. Up until yesterday, I didn't have anything that I would call a shooter show up on camera. Then out of the blue I get this...
Image
This picture is about 75 yards away from my stand on the opposite side of a thicket. I knew they crossed through that area during the season. It's just nice to see a target buck early. While I was out a couple weeks ago, I used my weedeater to clear a path from the common travel corridor through the tall grass through the thicket to cross directly behind my stand. I've had a number of good bucks walk that exact path so I figured why not make it even easier for them. If you build it, they will come. And when they come, if they have no antlers, I'm fine with that too.

Good luck, I an't stand being the woods on warm days anymore. The older I get the cooler I like it. I will not hunt on days when the temps are expected to exceed 50F. :eusa-naughty:

Pretty sure you can call in that Chupacabra easily. Start with a medium mouth call of Here Kitty Kitty. Works great around here!

Good luck! The only thing I hate about early season is trying to get the deer out before it spoils. I don't mind the bugs.

Yes it is Joe… welcome to SC!! That’s why we have no decent bucks. Longest deer season in the nation. If you see a good buck around here and think… I’ll let him walk, he’ll be really good next year…that’s the last time you’ll see him! If there’s room in the freezer, and the deer looks good to you… let the good times roll I say!! I’ll be ready to turn the long limbs loose!!

I know what you mean Dan, I hunt near the house
so it,s easy for me to get the tractor and retrieve a deer
"BUT" the older i get the slower i get, and with the heat
we are getting around here i will be hunting a
little later in the season. :)

I hate hunting in hot weather too, but I would just about never hunt if I only hunted on days that it doesn't get above 50. Our season opens on Sept. 15, but we rarely see days with a high below 50until mid November. We often see days where the temperature exceeds 50 in January.

My hope is that we see some days with LOWS in the 50sn late September after our season is open.
