Hunting Blunders. Asking for a friend.

Post by janesy »

Lets have a laugh at our own expense, share something dumb you did on the woods when nobody was there to see you.

So yesterday I came up to the family cottage to set out a bear bait site on crown land for myself and some friends(great folks, super nice, reminds me alot of myself) to share and enjoy. Got all my gear out and started loading the SxS and trailer to ride into the woods. I couldn't shake the feeling I was forgetting something so before I left I started doing the mental checklist.

Snake boots☑️
Barrel☑️
Tools☑️
Ladder☑️
Stand☑️
Camera☑️
Smelly sprays☑️
Attractants☑️
Bait...🤦‍♂️⚠️

Turns out I left two full bags of bait bag in my shipping container 2 hours south with the rest of my gear. Unbeleivable, who goes baiting without bait? Well this guy does apparently.

So, what have you done recently you didnt plan to tell anyone?

Oh, I also left my master key ring on my bumper after I dropped the trailer. So now they are gone forever. I'm just pulling all the aces this week.

One time a few years ago we hunted at my in laws farm. The Kid and I left our boots on their porch and went home after having lunch with them. We went out there the following morning and grabbed our boots and got ready to head out hunting. We were trying to be quiet because we were hunting maybe 400 yards away. The kid sticks his foot in one boot and starts screaming like a little girl. He thought there was a critter in his boot. It was a spent deer slug casing.🤣🤣

Back in the late 90's I forgot my boots at home and hunted in my quiet socks that night. It was mid Oct and fair out that day.
I'm probably not the only one to do this.

I've forgotten beans when I went to plant beans, corn when I went to bait, shells when I went goose hunting and arrows when I went hunting.
Welcome to the last half Chris!

I quite often take a younger guy deer or turkey hunting with me on my club. He lives almost a 1 1/2 hour drive away and always meets me at the club. On 3 separate occasions he has shown up with his camo, tree stand, pee bottle, drinks, etc. but no bow or rifle to hunt with. :eusa-deadhorse:

A: 1 in the bow case.
B: 1 in my backpack.
C: 1 in the truck.
D: 1 in the...Oh hell... :wtf:

Forgot my camo on a Turkey hunt... lol

Went out in my jeans and black jacket. I learned that camo doesn't matter to Turkeys. It's all about minimizing movement... lol
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

Pack up after a hunt and leave my stool or some other piece of gear there.
Left my phone one time and went back and looking for it in the dark got poked in the eye with a stick. Scratched my cornea pretty bad
Got to my spot an hour away with no quiver
AND...locked my keys in the truck and hour from home too. Wife wasn't happy about that

Went for an late afternoon hunt on the power line.
Coming back up the hill to where I parked I see that my headlights are on and lit very dimly...like candles. This happened more than once :eusa-think:
Now I have a dual battery setup.
Wonder what I'll screw up next?

On man Janesy, you are really on a roll.

My worst blunder was forgetting to buy an archery license prior to opener. Didn't realize until I was on the atv on the way to the stand opening night. 🤦‍♂️

I’ve forgotten to buy a migratory bird licence several times. Now that we buy them online, I never miss a beat! :eusa-dance:
