Heads up - Buy your arrows in 2022 for 2023

Excise tax on arrows going up in 2023
59 cent increase per shaft.

Note : arrow shafts went up 4% in 2022. My recent Black Eagle arrow order increased $18.00 CDN per Dozen over my cost 2 years ago.
The recent CDN dollar dropping to 75 cents isn't going to help arrow prices in CANADA for 2023.

ATA RELEASES

ARROW SHAFT TAX RATE FOR 2023

The ATA's tax specialist, Tim Hanford of ADC Strategies, has provided an unofficial set of computations that estimates the arrow shaft tax rate for 2023. The tax reform act created five years ago changed the indexing factor from CPI to Chained CPI, which prevented Bloomberg from publishing the estimate in their projected tax rates for 2023.

Tim worked directly with Bloomberg to compute the unofficial 2023 arrow shaft excise tax. The arrow excise tax for 2023 is estimated to be 59 cents per shaft. The IRS will release its official figure later this year, usually in November. The ATA provides this exclusive member-benefit so companies can adjust arrow prices for the next calendar year.

The 4 cent increase from the 2022 rate is inflationary. When arrows broke away from the 11% FET rate in 2004 as requested by industry members, the CPI adjustment was added in to keep the arrow tax consistent with other archery product taxes.

It's all going up! Our grain price has almost doubled. 22-24 bucks a bag for chicken feed! Last week I needed three items, boots, 18-1 target, and a starter for my truck. Four years ago i would have purchased all three items without a second thought. Instead I rebuilt my starter, patched my boots, and made a rag bag target. Other folks are having to make more difficult choices and have less options than I do. With winter coming these are the folks that could end up in serious trouble.

I know the feeling. Recently one of the spindles in my Bad Boy mower went out. I contacted Bad Boy...WRONG Idea!! A SINGLE spindle from Bad Boy was listed at $199.99  :wtf:
NOPE...ain't gonna do it!

Finally found a place that carried the parts needed to rebuild the spindle assembly. I rebuilt ALL three spindles for less than $50.00 total. Prices are CRAZY!!!
I went to the grocery store 2 days ago. Just for giggles I looked at what a pound of hamburger was selling for, OVER $8.00 a pound!! :eusa-naughty:

How does a young family with 2 or 3 kids afford to live? Something has to give.... :eusa-think: :eusa-popcorn:

A good friend of mine that has been in the oil and gas industry for more than 20 years says that natural gas will be thru the roof come winter. They have already seen a 500% increase in production prices.
Y'all get ready!!

Interest rates.

If we don't have money enough saved to buy something we want, we buy it with borrowed money. Borrowing is cheap. For now.

I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, all things mentioned above have been going up for years. Wholesalers and retailers have been taking it on the chin easy since 2015. It just finally got to the point that they couldn't take the losses anymore so the cost have now been passed over to the consumer. Retailers have been seeing quarterly increased of 3-5% like clockwork for years. We were lucky enough that we didn't have to take it all at once like the consumers have.

Trust me, we have made our beds, now we lay in them.

Coming on the heels of the pandemic, the inflation and price hikes have been like a 1-2 punch. That's the way life is sometimes I suppose. Probably best just to grin and bear it. Plenty to grin about with opening day fast approaching. :D
